What defines spam?

Okay, so I think I’ve seen spam thrown at almost all characters. Junkrat spams with nades, I just saw someone say Ana spams, hanzo spams, widow spams, hog spams hook(which is on a cooldown, so not sure how spam works there) sym spams. Torb spams too. Most of the time spam just means aiming for the choke and shooting before someone appears over and over again. I get junkrat. But widow and Ana can’t really spam. It gives away positioning. So I’m just wondering what spam means to you?

over used term…

Originally short for spiced ham
used in monty python sketch where spam is the only think on the menu… persumably based on WW2 era rationing or the foot shortage after the war where spam got popularized.

synonemous with spouting out the same thing over and over endlessly

So yeah… not really something widow maker does… and if she does then she ain’t charging her shoots properly and making herself an obvious flanking/dive target.

(anyway that is the cultural/historical background covered)

Shooting without trying to hit something specific in the hopes that you end up hitting something. It’s only a thing for projectiles.

that does happen especially for low ground widows shooting through crowds where aiming is kinda hopeless

That was way more than i thought I was going to get. :joy: thanks for that. Well done.

apparantly spam seams to be surprisingly popular in Hawaii and there are multiple cook books about spam lol :stuck_out_tongue:

Widow spam probably means everybody spamming Widowmaker in the hero selection screen since she’s now in pretty much every game

Ana definitely can spam and players tend to spam allies when they predict that they’re going to get shot so that they can pre-heal them and possibly hit enemies on the other side of the same teammates

I actually had it for the first time the other day. It’s good. A little too salty but still damn good and easy to use.

A Monty Python sketch.

Okay so in the case of Ana. Why does spam replace the word aim?

probably becase you can shoot through full health allies so standing at the back and just spamming through the scrum either hits a low health ally or an enemy… so good value either way…

its more situational then that though most of the time i would think…

and if you have a genji on the team then you need to be a freaking aim god because genji mains hate getting shoots lol :stuck_out_tongue:

serious fear of needles

It doesn’t. You literally watch your allies dance around the choke and SPAM towards them so you can pre-heal them and possibly hit opponents on the other side

In case of Widow it’s just wrong unless somebody spams with the SMG which would basically be throwing

its not a bad panic reaction… the SMG can do good damage… and ocassionally it is a better tool…

but then again standing your ground and keeping a cool head and head shooting can be better…

its all about how you react…. and the situation… .the SMG is better for low health enemies.

I guess I didn’t think of that part. Fair enough.

Oh no of course an ambush situation or finishing somebody off are out of the question here. I’m talking about using her SMG instead of scope consistently and not just when a Junkrat jumps you or somebody is 1

ah yes well that is true…

seldom use it myself but i am thinking i may wanna practice it more so i can switch ot smg and be effective when i have the opportunity…

Really it seams wrong not to practice the full kit…

I imagine that for most people, it’s defined as “lucky/blind shot that still managed to hit me”. I understand the distaste for it given it’s a relatively low-skill strategy, but unlike most others I see it as a legitimate strategy as a form of area denial. Filling an area with Junkrat bombs, Hanzo arrows, and/or a hail of Bastion bullets will force the enemies to use resources such as their tanks’ shields or other abilities to pass through the area, or they’ll be forced instead to use a flank route which can be covered by Steel Trap, Torb’s Turret, or Sym turrets. Honestly, it’s a pretty obvious side effect from not having any ammo restrictions outside of your current magazine size…
