What are your plans for cheaters with f2p?

Hey,
Since OW2 is confirmed to be f2p, I wanted to know what are blizzard’s plan about cheaters?
As you know the OW anti-cheat is very bad (if not no existant) and now with OW2 being f2p I’m afraid of having another reason to not enjoy ranked games anymore.
Here are some options I tought about:

  • Comp only when you’re lvl 100 or more: it may sound simple but at least cheaters will have to lose a lot of time climbing in qp and it may annoy them and reduce cheaters numbers

  • Adding a REAL anti-cheat like Vanguard one (based on kernel): spend more money on anti cheat please.

  • creating a “trust system” where you can chose to play only with trusted players. the trust level should be calculated based on the levels and players endorsement.

  • adding a system where players can watch replays or reported players and check if they are cheating or not (ofc give good awards for the players who check)

those are some suggestions. i want to know the opinion of players and blizzard about this.

I’m confident something will be done for smurfs/cheaters for it being f2p. Your first suggestion has been talked about for years.

I do agree with you, i’m also waiting for blizzard’s response concerning the cheaters and punishment, the state of the game is already disastrous right now we don’t want to be playing an even worse version of it.
We need official and clear statement about this problematic otherwise it’s like saying nothing will change and this is really scary for the future of the game.

You’re right about enforcing security against cheaters however THEY REALLY need to surpass themselves if they want to build a solid reputation and f2p game. I don’t wanna be in a lobby with 5 cheaters and hope the cheaters on my team have better hacks to win.

They should simply require to verify an account via ID or payment method (PayPal, Credit Card, etc.).

If someone creates multiple accounts the SR/MMR gets shared among them and if one of the accounts gets banned, all other accounts connected to that player get banned as well.

I don’t think kind of system can be done in the west
you’re asking too much i think.

I don’t really see a big issue here.
It would change quite literally nothing for anyone who has ever used a payment method on his account that isn’t anonymous :woman_shrugging:

My plans are to care even less than my already low level of caring about Overwatch.

my plan? Quitting of course. Not going to deal with soldiers 76 locked on ultimate mode through the entire game.
Unless blizzard locks competitive behind a paywall, Im not going to get recked by cheaters, smurfs and toxic people who will flood comp without repercussions.

And the one who hasnt? This is too much restrictive and radical

They could put them into a separate player pool.
It would most probably not be a pleasant experience for them, but at least the overwhelming majority of the player base would have a much better match quality.

Chances are they have no plans. They’ll just state that they do, make some mumbo jumbo on the fly and say they can’t say any more. Then close the discussion and call it a day.

My confidence in Blizzard as a F2P game manager, is very low

i also think they have no immediate plans for the future although i do see them going the valorant route someday. i just hope they dont mess up the kernal 0 anti-cheat bad enough in the beginning lol. dont want to lose frames or memory playing other games when im not even playing overwatch

I dont think that a paywall is a solution. cheats are very expensive so if someone is willing to put 200€ per month in a cheat, i dont think that a 10€ paywall is going to stop him

no they are not, there are free cheats and scripts, just google them.
Ow1 with a paywall has low amount of cheaters. That means paywall works well.
They should keep competitive behind paywall, just like valve did with counter strike., which got improved a lot with prime purchase.
Competitive should have quality matches and not be flooded with cheaters, smurfs and toxic people with tons of alt accounts.

I remember that the paywall wasnt that great of solution on csgo.
People are not cheating on OW1 just bcz there is no point in cheating in a dying game…

No, this is a lie about csgo, cheaters got reduced a lot in comp with prime. google it since the forum doesn’t allow links.

Also regarding the cheating in a dying game you said, congrats! Nice mentality. Nothing more I have to say.

No plan for the future of their new “game”? That seems very odd, the game is already 6 yo and most of the exploit have been found, if they don’t update their anti cheat and game correctly we will be in really bad position, also isnt there a problem with privacy, security and trust with certain anti cheat using kernel, i know valorant is using this method to prevent cheaters but i don’t think riot is like blizzard in term of politics

The only thing there I disagree with is the trust system, mostly because I don’t ever really see people use the endorsement feature much at all, so I doubt that would do any good, if anything kinda harm the players with q times.
I also absolutely think a real anti-cheat system like vanguard is NEEDED, and if it does happen than I don’t see a need to keep level 25 for comp cause than that would still allow newer players to access competitive easier and get into it, I think level 100+ takes a while to get too and would really limit who plays comp and kinda limit its potential.

Put cheaters/sus into one region and let them fight with each other.
