I stopped playing overwatch for like a year and then i came back recently and there’s alot of new things people talk about that I don’t get.
What does dif mean and mtd mean?
What’s goats?
And why does pickrate matter in gm? Whenever I open one of these forums talking about pickrates it’s always based off grandmaster. Aren’t majority of players in silver/gold/plat? Am I missing something? Why cater to grandmaster and not what the majority of players need?
That was a meta before 222 was forced to kill it, basicialy any 3 tank 3 healer composition was called goats, sometimes even replacing tank with dps, still was goats for some reason by some people.
Because “they know game the best” as some put it. I would say they just know their own part of the game, (random nonsense part, you can ignore it) but from the buisness point, rn, it make sense. Casuals and lower rank players dont make much more cash for them anymore i imagine since they ruined economy by giving free coins and lootboxes for picking tanks. So i guess its better to not waste time and money on part of community that dont mean much in numbers. You just need game to be popular to watch, and keep it going with the 9 wins every few weeks to looks active until OW2 drops when people will start cashing in again.
It was a team composition that’s no longer possible in the current Role Queue system. The purest forms of it have no DPS, IIRC, instead opting for three tanks and three supports.
I’m guessing “mtd” stands for “Main Tank Difference”. It’s blaming the tanks for a loss.
Balancing is hard. To make it a bit easier, people try to eliminate as many variables as possible, such as personal skill.
The downside is that sometimes the benefits don’t trickle down, and you end up with characters that are touted as being fine for the top, but are naff for 95% of us.
Usually a hero or role is followed by “diff” as a rude way to compare the people who played that role/hero on either team. Diff meaning Difference. MTD simply means Main Tank Difference.
Goats was the infamous 3-3 team comp fueled by Brigitte and high sustain. It was a boring comp that was commonly played everywhere, and hard locked in GM and OWL.
People in GM don’t just play for [vulgar word for poo] and giggles, so what is commonly played up there is usually what works, and says a lot more than just winrate. Combining the 2 allow for people to understand why the hero may be performing, not just one of those stats should be used, but should be used in combination with each other when arguing. People use GM for a frame of reference because up there the players do as little bad as possible and as much good as possible. However, in Silver/Gold/Plat, people make tons of mistakes. And problems in those ranks are because of the players not being good enough to counter/synergize with a certain hero, meanwhile in GM, if there’s a problem, the most skillful and knowledgeable players can’t counter or synergize with the problematic hero and so it isn’t just a problem about the players not being good enough, but instead the hero IS a problem.
