If I play support I feel like my heals are wasted and my DPS are bunch of morons that can’t shoot a thing,
if I play DPS, I feel like the support straight up ignores me and plays rather shoot enemy or dump everything into my tank…
and I don’t feel like playing tanks because that’s just shooting Rammatra simulator and watching all the characters I bring down to low HP fall back and return healed…
Not so much a catch 22, but a realization that playing a role sort of skews your perception of what is going on.
Playing like 50/50 between tank and dps has allowed me to roughly gauge when the other role isnt doing what they need to. Sometimes things are not so simple as to point a finger at a single role or person failing in a particular match.
Except console players in PC queues, that is almost always a clear problem.
If you’re a support main, you understand what OP is saying. It’s really real.
Support mains thrive on teamwork but DPS mains thrive on chasing kills. OW2 favors fast elims over teamwork since most of the roster can two shot each other.
If I play Support, most likely my DPS are running around feeding.
If I play DPS , most likely my Support has a DPS player in it for BP XP and that player runs around like a DPS chasing kills (they always instalock Moira or Kiriko).
The OP is speaking the truth. Only Support mains understand.
so much for skewing perception when I’m highest damage on tank when I play tank, highest damage and/or elims when I’m DPS and outhealin and outdamaging enemy supports as support…
I’m OP and I am support main…
whic is sad, because I’d rather be losing because I suck at the game…
The tank having the most damage and elims is not outside of the norm, due to sheer sustain. DPS will have to do a lot more running around to not die, or focus on picking off low targets rather than burst from full.
It’s not really a catch 22, when there’s an easy fix.
Both games that are the most similar to Overwatch, (I.e. Gundam and Paladins) have a regen passive for all players, while also having far more self sufficient and lethal Support characters.
And on top of that, it lowers the desirability of killing Supports, since the enemy team can just heal up by retreating for a bit, then re-engage a few seconds later.
I’d enjoy Paladins if the graphics didn’t look like old League of Legends, maybe not models but the quality still, and the color contrast of OW is still way better than Paladins…
Paladins feels like content drought OW, without the content drought
K, well I’m saying everybody in Overwatch should have a regen passive. Even if that means they need to lower mid-combat heals, to make sure Team Compositions aren’t too durable.
problem with regen passive is free value denial, by simply peeking with full health, retreating when you lose some, and coming back again wtih full health
removes reliance on supports and health packs, gives greater need and urge to play burst and one-shot meta…
You’re not wrong, but again there’s a very easy fix for that.
A. Remove the oneshot off of oneshot characters. I.e. Roadhog
B. Nerf the remaining oneshot characters down to niche tier. I.e. Widow
The only real question is if they choose path A or path B for Sojourn.
Or they screw it up again, and go the “Balancing LaunchBrig” approach to Sojourn. Where they do a ton of tiny nerfs that don’t actually fix the problem. But it’s also not a problem for anybody but the top 5% of players.
The way I see it, here’s a spectrum of FPS Mechanics to MOBA Mechanics.

So when I hear stuff like “Oh you just wanna make it exactly like CoD” it kinda makes my eyes roll.
Ditto for when people insist Overwatch Roles need to follow DOTA/LoL/WoW guidelines.
It’s almost on par with saying “One less Tank, and the game instantly becomes CounterStrike”.
