What am I doing wrong?

Started playing competitive last season, got low gold. Fine for my first time, but I want to improve. This season, losing tons of games and am stuck around the 1800s. I don’t find it to be my fault, as often I am excelling in my roll. I play a lot of Ana and Lucio, get a good amount of healing and general support to the team such as taking out low HP targets. I play reaper too. Got 40 elims last game along with 18k damage. (still lost). I don’t feel as if I’m carrying the team, but I am surely pulling my own weight. I just keep losing, and idk why. I solo queue all the time, cause I don’t know anybody who’s really dedicated to comp or could really help me out. Any help?

You placed higher than you should’ve and you are dropping to where you belong. It’s very common for new players to just be put in Gold even when they don’t belong in Gold.

You aren’t honest with assessment of yourself. Your stats are all visible here so you can take a look.

This is the biggest mistake anyone can make.

Welcome to handicapped mmr. Enjoy the ride down or if mm is feeling good the ride up…

“SR” is just a fancy way of saying “RNG”. It’s no fault of your own (though you should never accept you’ve done good enough, even if that’s unrealistic) considering many high level players are pinned down while lower skill players float creating a 5/1 system for the mmr where it finds a match of 10 similar players and two outliers, or a 4/2 with a lesser but still substantial skill gap. You literally have a predetermined 50% chance to win or lose, no matter what rank and how good or bad you are. So don’t blame yourself, and don’t worry about a broken rank. Just focus on improving. Your stats are much more relevant than your rank.

I don’t agree with most that you have said. Mostly that. Below diamond, SR gains and losses are based on your individual skill; your stats compared to others using the same hero at the same rank, yes. However, your rank is a good summary of your mechanical skill compared the whole player base. Gold and platinum are average.
Wins and losses aren’t 50% each. If you do really well with your hero and actually win and lose 1:1, you’ll slowly rank up. If your skill isn’t perfect, it’ll even out or decay

No, you really don’t. Believing things like this is a big part of what keeps people from climbing. If you’re consistently outperforming other players at your rank, your chances of climbing shoot up. If everyone had a genuine 50% to win, regardless of skill, then everyone would be around Gold and Platinum, and it would be virtually impossible to climb.

Or you could examine your own performances, figure out what you’re doing wrong, correct it, and climb.

Your stats are only relevant compared to other people of your rank. A Gold player getting 30 eliminations is not even in the same ballpark as a GM getting 30 eliminations.

Forgive Duchess, he’s what’s called an apologist for Blizzard and Overwatch. Refuses to critique his own views and instead defends his own views about Overwatch. He’s convinced himself that he’s always right despite the fact that he can’t possibly know what hes talking about (MMR handicap system)

Well, let’s see, I’ve climbed multiple ranks since competitive first became a thing, and you make excuses for why you can’t do the same.

But sure, the guy who essentially breaks even on wins and losses even when impacted by PBSR is the one who doesn’t understand MMR.

It’s common to have this happen. Take this for instance- there are alot of mismatched games out there. Individual performance is great. But are you healing the right targets with Ana? Are you just healbotting Lucio or are you using him to peel for your fellow support and also to harass enemies who have limited movement abilities? Are you killing the right targets as reaper?

Those are all factors. It’s easy to inflate personal stats but not help the team in the way that’s needed. Post some gameplay for us to analyze! Or watch pros/streamers to see what you could do differently. Good luck~

I hate to say it but if you wanna escape low tiers you gotta play (or at least I did) dps. If you KNOW you’re better than the elo you’re playing in, it’s pretty easy (and devilishly fun) to just lock in a dps you’re comfortable with and destroy your way up the ladder until you hit that next wall. After that just practice hard, work with your team and you’ll climb some more. Good luck!!
