Just spitballing here, it would be a bit different from what we currently have on the roster. I’m thinking something like zen or mercy, a sort of “pocket” healer that can attach a couple of orbs that will heal the target when the target itself does any damage. The hero themselves would also self heal when doing damage. They would definitely need some extra utility, maybe something akin to v1 symmetra where they could apply shields/a small amount of healing to allies on a short cooldown. Maybe the ultimate could be a small damage boost to all allies in range while applying the heal on damage effect. Could definitely lead to some… interesting conversations when teammates are complaining about lack of heals. Thoughts?
It could be a small part of a much larger kit, then it would be fine. It shouldn’t be a main feature. It would be like Illari where say the bulk of healing comes from her weapon with a smaller portion from giving allies a life steak.
Doing damage for healing is not reliable. Mauga has sort of shown us this issue when he has to deal with shields, defense matrix, or anti-healing.
Ohhh, I forgot Mauga has lifesteal! Yeah I see your point. The inspiration came from some of Junkenstein’s lab cards, I know we had something like that for Mercy where a portion of damage from dmg boost would convert to heals, I would love to see something like that on a new hero
The mechanic would work better on a support than Mauga though because it would be active more often and for longer amounts of time. They could certainly make it work out if they wanted to.
Mauga already broken. He can able survive and kill just by pressing one button. Mauga even doesn’t lose at 50hp while Bastion in turret attacking him either with usual 360 damage per second either with 540 (community crafted mode, headshots in turret). Mauga super strong against non-shield heroes, but weak against shields and etc. That is the broken design. Phara also as example when she pocketing with mercy. That is insane combo. Healing and dealing damage at same time is not good…
Ah, a chef i see!
So, how long should we cook it for the healing, Rare for 20 HP? Medium Rare for 40 HP? Well Cooked for 80 HP…?
…
Just a joke
I think the whole “vampire” thing is a very good mechanic that could be implemented in Overwatch. The issue comes with visualization and how intuitive that is.
For example Discord is already hard to see by some players, so someone with that Vampiric aura should turn … red? or have a heart on top of the model? I think thats the biggest issue and not the implementation itself.
Could be an aura, or a debuff you put in an enemy, and whoever shoots them gets life regen etc.
reminds me a bit of the power tracer with hp sacrifices and selfheal if the gauge is full. iirc
On paper, the concept is neat… but in practice, it’ll almost always be on the tank first and foremost because it’s the biggest and easiest target
Cook it for 8 years, say it stinks but eat it anyway while ordering up another
It’s a nice bonus in some matchups but if it’s too important to your characters entire identity like mauga it’s certainly unreliable
Reaper for example also has a lifesteal mechanic but it’s more just to get a little bit of extra sustain for the most part, similar to venture shields when using abilities. And even more so when you remember that when they’ve buffed reapers lifesteal it has caused issues in many lower ranks because he’s too hard to kill while not making him much better in higher ranks
Heroes with no mitigation or much mobility with the size of a tank to be specific, of which there are only really 3 (hog, mauga himself, and bastion).
Against heroes with actual mitigation it’s not as good and against heroes with smaller hitboxes it’s also not as good. (Queen can be a bit tricky because of her thinner hitbox for example)
Also to be fair I’m not sure if it’s broken design so much as it is really good against other heroes with awful designs like hog and bastion
Mauga able survive just saying “Ha-ha” mercy boosted Bastion in turret with Bap’s matrix which deals at around 1000 damage per second. Awful is when some hero survives after 2500-3000 damage per 3 seconds. And then why Bastion is awful? Before and after 6 season do you ever saw Bastion in OW league? Currently Bastion in weak state, just look at TOP-500 pickrates per whole year…
DPS: “yo where’s my healing?!”
Support:
I’d be down.
Jokes aside, though, it actually does sound good.
Exactly why his design is awful. It’s too easy to exploit. Same with hog.
This extreme scenario you pointed out is basically not really possible against 99% of heroes in the game (I’m assuming it’s true without math checking it) because bastion is a tank without tank mitigation in the dps role, a mauga shooting him literally can’t miss a shot. He’s just a flawed hero.
I could see some variation of this. Good idea.
I approve this idea, I demand more healing for Mauga
But also this would effectively kill the game because self-healing Tracer and Sombra
In my idea, it would require at least some form of LOS, like zen’s orbs disappearing after a while
I was also thinking it might be best if the healing is not a flat % per damage done but instead it would be a heal-over-time trigger like Brig’s inspire. Maybe those two things combined would make the hero less oppressive whilst remaining useful
You mean Reaper? Or Mauga’s Cardiac Overdrive that gives lifesteal to allies? But permanent? Imagine Zarya who has absurd amount of healing, imagine bastion who can facetank enemy team? Seems fun. Bring it in.
Sounds like an easy way to make tracer even more immortal
