And as a result, JQ better get nerfed for it, rather than Brig/Lucio since she’s entirely to blame, which I called out before her nerf that she got toward the end of the last beta. But again, we don’t know how bad it’ll be for us; we don’t even know if they’ll finally give us balance changes, or maybe the new fox girl support makes another composition that is able to counter JQ viable.
In ladder play, the fact is that there will be ways to deal with it even if it does become the meta, because on the ladder, noone perfectly coordinates with their teams, even in t500.
Zen will likely be a good answer to any situation where nothing is dying, for example. It’s a no-shield comp, so double sniper/double burst in general would work well, too, since again, there won’t be amazing use of the abilities that make it as it is.
Its almost like Overwatch is a terrible idea for a competitive game because the end-point will always be an unfun series of repetitive metas with no pick/ban system to stop every game being the exact same thing.

Competitive OW always was mirror matches, aside from one or two pocket picks. Competitive needs some sort of ban system and more heroes for a healthy meta
I’m just saying it as a passive comment because they like to nerf symptoms rather than causes.
They were much easier to get value out of and not at all easy to deal with without mirroring. I didn’t lie and you seemed to misunderstand me as stating people knew how to counter them; I didn’t.
Unironically when bans came out, I began playing more again, until they were removed. I’d welcome the old system until there are plenty of heroes for all roles.
its been 2 years since the last time i played OW. Did they implement some sort of ban system? Didnt hear anything about it
This was a few years ago, after role queue came out. Each week they’d remove heroes from the competitive pool, however it was often a bit of a disconnect because they removed the same number from all roles at one point, then began cycling which role would have two removed instead of one; it was messy.
If I recall correctly, they simply banned the most played hero for x role the previous few weeks, but a hero could not be banned multiple weeks in a row. It did wonders for actual variation, but the weeks where there was essentially no tank/support choice were reaallly bad.
Basically, it was another case where they lazily gave up without iterating appropriately.
thank god i didnt play, because this system is awful. Its not a ban system but a penalty to some players and lazy idea to create variation to the game instead of doing a proper balance.
there was a ban system once when iam not mistaken… it was even in comp for a short time? but it failed…

Blame commanding shout. That is the only reason why this is the current meta.
Every hero doesn’t feel samey (is that a word?). There is plenty of variety. Unfortunately most of them are unplayable because hitscan long range heroes will always dominate over short-range heroes who are the ones that have the variety of abilities.
OW1 was all hitscan and long range heroes (including hanzo, echo and pharah along with the hitscans) and OW2 is going to have an even smaller set of viable heroes because there are less shields.
If people were expecting the game to have more variety with 5v5 they are going to be very disappointed. The hero pool has gained 3 new heroes on launch but probably lost 6 from the viable list so going from maybe 15 viable heroes to 9 or 10. Pretty much what we saw in the betas.
This meta is on JQ because how broken her shout ability is. Officially lost what small interest I had with OWL.
don’t forget that they’re changing the only heroes that attempt to break that mold like Doomfist who wasn’t even that viable as a DPS anyways compared to the more reliable picks lol
maybe i should’ve said ‘match’ instead of ‘hero’, as in regardless of who i play, the match will feel samey because it’s a less varied and interesting game
