Well… i am done with the beta

As someone who has played support for the last 6 years, i have never felt this level of useless and hopeless. I wanted to give 5v5 a chance. I thought Maybe having 1 less tank opposing me would allow me the space to make some plays and have an impact. But its clear the devs do not intend for supports to make any impact by the way they are treating them and their refusal to address dps power creep.

The fact we have removed a tank and not toned down damage across the board is insane to me. We are continuing to pump out broken heroes who can do everything. Lets make a dps who has a high damage assault rifle as her primary, an easy to hit 1 shot, vertical and horizontal mobility, a slow which also deals an absurd amount of damage whilst also acting as area denial and can allow you to damage round corners, plus her ult allows her to 1 shot non stop for 8 seconds. Brilliant design. Not! Its oppressive as :face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth: all she does is run at you and sprays you with a couple rifle shots to get her charge high enough then hits you in the body with her railgun, instantly killing you. Where is the skill here? There is none. She is a horrible hero to play against.

Now we add a tank who can self heal, has damage over time, can give her entire team bonus hp and speed, hog hook-lite and anti heal. Did no one stop at the design table and go, maybe this is too much?

The game is utter chaos, dps just get to do what they like unpunished now and it has turned the game into a complete clown fiesta. All the strategy and game sense of Overwatch 1 is gone. Its purely about who can click heads first. Every game is filled with broken hitscan dps sniping you across the map while you try to dive to any cover you can find. This is exactly what was feared. You remove 1 tank and now the game has become ‘hide behind the wall and risk peaking’ simulator. It isnt fun. It isnt engaging. Its down right braindead and dumb.

I have played this beta for 15 hours and outside the first 4-5 trying out the new changes, heroes and maps, i have hated every moment. It isnt fun anymore. All of what made Overwatch Overwatch has been removed. Its just become another bland shooter with no personality.

Heres hoping the devs actually listen to feedback and tone down damage heroes and buff supports. Until then i have no intention of playing anymore

Not my Overwatch!

This sounds like a you problem… I am spending half my time on Supports, its just a different play style needed in OW 2, you have to be more aggressive on Supports which quite honestly is liberating. Even Mercy. The GA change is crap though.

You are the same guy who just responded in another thread saying Sojourn’s rifle was very forgiving right? Okay - if you are that good you should have no problem with running a Support in OW 2

Uh, 5v5 is eons better than 6v6, the game looks and feels better as well / refreshed & the new heroes are amazingly well done… The only issue I have w/ the beta currently is all of Mercy’s bugs & her GA change, but other than that I prefer OW2 beta over OW1 live client.

Have fun going back to 6v6 & staleness though!

lmao im sick of hearing this different playstyle BS. Literally nothing has changed about the playstyle of supports.

You heal, use utility, counter with ur ults and try to survive. You make sure your other support is being kept healthy and try to make plays with aggression based on how the match is going.

Good supports have always played like this. People need to stop saying that there is a large playstyle change with supports just to make bad players feel better. The game is 100% easier for any support with decent mobility and those without mobility have broken abilities that compensate (im looking at you ana, zen)

Good supports have always played aggressively, the only difference now is that there is 1 tank, so you have to position better. Healbot supports and those who dont use cover are being punished, just like they should be. I share your opinion Quantum but there isn’t a significant playstyle change, the people struggling on supports now were just bad on OW1, but could hide behind 2 tanks and spamming heals.

You may be “tired” of it but it’s how it is. They
Play style required in OW 2 is requiring you to use the kit differently. Not hard to grasp.

Literally isn’t, but keep sugarcoating it for bad players who are claiming support is terrible ahhh.

The only ‘difference’ is that you’re supposed to play aggressive. Good support players already did this anyway in OW1, it was just harder to do so because you have 2 tanks and 2 supports VS 2 tanks and 1 support if you decide to go try and diff a DPS and kill supports. Moira is so good in OW2 because she can just yeet into the backline, kill a support or two and leave

I was playing Zen on one of the new maps, and I was next to a wall with my Rein in front of me and one DPS to my right. JQ walked right past my Rein and DPS, killed me, yelled, and got out without dying. I guess I’m just bad.

If that’s all you think about this no wonder you are struggling .

??? Do you actually read what people say?

I’m not struggling. Support is great in OW2 (if not easier to get value in) in OW2. The support players who are struggling are just terrible at the game.

I’m not sure this is a fair generalization of struggling support players. Remember when the game had an off tank that could mitigate damage and peel for supports? It was like two days ago.

Saying the play style hasn’t changed at all is simply wrong.

Not sure what you were expecting that rein to do….JQ owns rein

I mean there hasn’t been a major shift in the optimal playstyle of supports.

In OW1 you heal and play aggressive when you can, back up when needed, use cover and tanks, pocket your other support from flankers or fight them
In OW2 you heal and play aggressive whenever, back up when needed, use cover, pocket your other support from flankers or fight them

I can just yeet myself into the enemy team as moira, kill their mercy who can do nothing in like 2 seconds and then fly out again. In most of my games i’ve just been playing as a support assassin and have still maintained a minimum of 1k heals minute (and one game I had 2k per minute even though theres less health, so that would be performing better than 2k/min in OW1)

I’ve played mostly support on the Beta, since everything else is 1/2 an hour wait and gotten several play of the games. And she’s right. It’s not fun.

I’m not blaming the Rein or DPS. It was more about how helpless I was in that situation. I wasn’t front-lining. I was mid-line using the wall as cover from their DPS, and the tank walks through and kills me.

Unfortunately, the dev team was under the impression that supports could be slotted into 5v5 with minimal adjustments. This hasn’t worked well so far, and it’s becoming apparent based on queue times and Blizzard’s own data.

Supports need proper attention to similar to what tanks and some dps received. A few reworks, a new ability or two, and some number adjustments are needed. The dev team has recognized this, but the changes aren’t done yet. Hopefully they’ll get things in a better state before launch.

That’s a lot of words and I failed to count ‘fun’ among them.

Is there a reason that you left the word fun out?

I would say don’t play support… but these tank and dps queues lol

5v5 makes me want to play support even more. To each their own, I guess.

Think most would……she’s basically current doom….you don’t want to be near her….neither cares about how many barriers you’re using for cover

I am, whole heartedly and sincerely, glad for you. That was bound to happen for some people and hopefully it will happen for a lot more players.
