Weekly challenges need to be redesigned

This has been a problem beyond just Overwatch, but with the rise of many service titles, gacha, etc. taking over a large chunk of marketshare, not many will pick just one game and play that all day. The current weekly challenge system requires not only playing for hours to achieve the reward tier, but also punishes you for playing modes like 6v6 (like you can’t do the all roles challenge in it), not playing only the modes the game wants (comp/stadium), and it also punishes you for losing which makes every challenge take twice as long on top of it already being a massive slog. Even worse is every game can take upwards of 20 minutes, even if you win every single match enough for the 45 point challenge. That’s 22.5 games played which amounts to 7 and half hours of matches in just one week. That’s not feasible for anyone playing any other game. The only thing that’s been done is allowing the weeklies to carry over week to week, but you still have to play an ungodly amount of time just to do one set regardless.

Compare this system to Marvel Rivals, and it’s like night and day. Everything in rivals is much quicker and brief to complete. Being built by a chinese service game company, Netease at least knows that service titles need to be built around quick bursts of play, not this prolonged extended playtime crap that just burns people out fast. The whole system needs to be generalized down so that any mode regardless of choice allows you to complete all the challenges instead of trying to force players into modes they have no interest in, or roles they don’t like playing. Fortnite even got rid of its mode specific rewards, so now anything can be gotten in any mode barring ranked rewards. This change is long overdue.

While I wouldn’t have an issue with them making it quicker, it also doesn’t need to be completed in one week. They carry over to the following weeks. Plus only giving bpass xp, which is already pretty quick to finish with dailies. And most game modes can get 3+ done, and doing 3 is where the bulk of the xp lies.

They wouldn’t need to be carried over week to week if they were just designed fast to begin with, the only reason that system got added was for a bandaid because people complained they couldn’t complete the weeklies fast enough (Which is by design or something if they refuse to change how long people are playing). There’s other dumb forced mode challenges and the ones where you have to play 15 full matches with the top 3 heroes you don’t play normally. Like you’re never allowed to use any of your mains because of how long that one takes to complete. Especially with people trying to play in short bursts.

They are there for people to play the game. The point of them isn’t to get weeklies done in like an hour. And I don’t really think taking a few hours a week is a big deal, especially when you don’t lose out on much if you don’t have the time to do them. Getting to 80 on the bpass can be done by playing like 30m a day.

Also the weekly is play anything that isn’t in your top 3 most played. And again, can skip that one and do a different one to still get 3 done for the bigger xp gain.

I never said to complete them all in an hour, but they shouldn’t take a dozen hours a week to complete either. If they only took a few hours a week, they wouldn’t have ever implemented a band-aid system like carry overs or anything.

They are there for people to play the game.

If you want to just play the game normally then that’s completely fine. You don’t need a BP system telling when to play. My problem is, in this market, there are too many games asking for the same things and there’s finite time to bother with them. One game shouldn’t require a ridiculous amount of time to do any of its basic systems for something the player has to pay for, especially when compared to its main competitors.

Also the weekly is play anything that isn’t in your top 3 most played. And again, can skip that one and do a different one to still get 3 done for the bigger xp gain.

Telling people to just skip something is just admitting it’s poorly designed and shouldn’t be engaged with.

They don’t. The longest one to do is the 45 games played/wins. Which at 50% winrate is 30 games. Average qp game length is prob like 7m or so, plus queue time. Can def do 5 an hour, so 6 hours.

The more people play, the more likely they are to spend money on the game. Make things to quick to get, and they lose money. Make it too long and people won’t bother. Finishing the bpass in this game does not take too long, nor do the challenges. And if people cannot complete them, it’s really not a big deal. There is plenty of time to complete the bpass still, and maybe in another week they will have more time to play. It’s called a “challenge” given they are not hard.

If they don’t have time they can’t compete things. Such is life. It’s not like it’s adding gameplay or anything, just bonus xp for playing the game more.

I totally agree, which is why DAILY challenges are the bigger issue. Take it from me. I play this game the bare minimum out of FOMO. The weekly challenges are actually some of the friendliest and most forgiving.

This is literal BS. QP matches take on average 10-15 minutes as per statistical data based on mode with payload taking the longest. Comp can take 15-30 minutes, rounds can last as long as one match in QP. Stadium can take 30+ minutes on par with a moba. But that’s also assuming a 50% winrate which is unrealistic unless you have a premade. You know full well most are solo queuing and winning 1/3rd of the time.

Burning people out with modes/roles they don’t like for a dozen hours is just burning people out of bothering with it. All I see is complaints with the game design outside of this and then with forcing people to play how the devs want is leaving me wondering how this thing is alive still.

That has nothing to do with what that’s responding to, clearly the system needs a rework or we’re gonna keep getting fun event challenges like 99 matches played in 2 weeks where you just sit there and play Overwatch like a zombie all day for a title.

I like how you go from one extreme to another. 7 hours is too much, obviously, but who’s saying it should be done in 1 hour? The time all this stuff takes should be halved.

I can level up so quickly in fortnite, it’s ridiculous. But, because of how long it takes, I will not be trying to level my overwatch account to 200 this season, so it’s actually a deterrent if anything. That, and the rewards past level 80 aren’t worth anything.

Still, fixing the time-sink with this gane would alleviate a lot of stress.

The bpass is done at 80. Going past that is just for small extras, just like lost bpasses have once completed.

Let’s see that data? Considering push is 8m max, payload and hybrid are 10m. Assuming koth and flashpoint don’t go to make rounds it’s around 10m. And all that is assuming close matches going the distance, when people complain all the time or stomps, which are 5ish mins.

Ok I give up on reading and further replying when you say nonsense like that.

God forbid anyone try to respond to your own setup, Mr. “Weeklies shouldn’t be completed in a week”

Quick play used to be faster than comp but since the games release they made the following changes:

  • Made control the same length in comp
  • Removed capture
  • Added Push, Flashpoint, and Clash

Now the only modes that are faster are payload maps: escort and hybrid. But hey, with map voting that might be the majority again.

I was very critical of challenges early on, but I kind of think they’ve got them in a much better spot now.

However, the challenges I absolutely hate and want fixed are “Queued as all Roles”, because you always get tank.

“Queued for all Roles” should rotate what you get with no more than 2 in a row of the same role, because it’s so annoying to get tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank (yes, one Saturday of gaming, I actually got tank 19 times in a row).

If they won’t fix that, get rid of the challenge and just make separate challenges for queueing up under a specific role.

I’ve gotten to level 200 on multiple occasions, I know what’s in the pass. It should be enough that you have to spend money on these things. The additional time payment is ridiculous. Especially considering what you get past level 80.
