Role queue is great. It creates more stable and consistent team comps. This leads to more even matches and less toxicity. But the fatal flaw is queue times. We can go on and on about blizzard’s failure to fix this problem but it’s too late for that now. Come beta 3 if queue times are not better or even just marginally improved it will spell huge trouble for the future of OW2.
A failure to fix queue times will defeat probably the main purpose of 5v5. If this fear is confirmed (which seems very likely at this point) then the devs must consider dropping role queue for role limits instead. I feel our job as a community is to discuss this now. The pros and cons of such a system. How it will affect the games in terms of balance, player retention, toxicity, etc.

it would be nice if you could send a request to a player on your team to swap roles

Role queue is never going away. By now it’s so ingrained in the game it would be foolish, if not impossible, to remove.

Role Limits might as well be labeled “permission to smurf granted” and would undo the very thing that the 2 factor authentication would prevent because the main benefit of RQ is not that you are guaranteed a real team comp, but that you are guaranteed a real team comp that plays those roles AT the level of the game.

5v5 is being done because no one wants to play tank cause blizzard continuously treats tank mains like crap and makes tanking the most terrible thing in the world to do thats far from fun. Rather then fix tanks and make them good again, blizzard opts to just delete a tank role from the game totally wrecking balance even further and showing their extreme hatred for all tank mains.

Bruh solo tanking in 2 is chad af, legit hog is the worst tank. Every other tank is great to play now. Winston and Hammond feel more consistent in their value, rein is a juggernaut in pushing forward, etc etc.

ROFL what? I have 18 smurfs. role que makes it easier to smurf.
Hopefully they realize their mistakes before it’s too late.
I really liked Jeff Kaplan, but I’ll never forget when he was pushed on releasing more tanks and supports and his answer was something about DPS being the most popular ice cream flavor and that of course they would continue to be the focus.
The focus for the next 6 months needs to be about making support feel better to play. I think it would be smart if they released 2 new support heroes by October 4.
I just still can’t believe that the first new hero was a DPS.
Get it together development team. How could they have not seen this in their internal play testing before the first beta?

They did confirmed after the December 2022 tank 11, 2023 will bring 2 new supports. I believe Aaron Keller hears the community better then Jeff did tbh.

Do you have 18 phone numbers for them when OW2 comes out? That is ignoring that RQ makes it easier to catch smurfs then the classic way but either way Role Limits removes any ability to catch a smurf on the only (or 2-3) that you will have when OW2 launches.
as a flex player this concept doesn’t bother me I think it might be fine for a alternative for qp classic
getting around that is kind of childs play, ngl.
Right, but for the game’s sake, they might want to try to push development of the second support hero a little faster. I think this game is going to very quickly lose its appeal if queue timers for tanks and DPS players is 10+ minutes, which I think is likely to happen.
Fox girl will alleviate some of that, but it’s one new hero, in the most stale role, with the least number of changes, with the longest without getting a new hero, with the smallest roster.
Post launch we have gotten 4 tanks 4 supports, and 5 DPS heroes.
Support also technically lost Sym.
I think it would be smart to launch early access work 2 new support heroes.

If they can’t fix queue times with adjustments and new characters then an alternative is adding more content for people to do during the queue wait times.

It needs to be an official landline phone number, it can’t just be some whatsapp number.
I’m sure blizzard will do something magical that no other platform with the same same system has figured out, yes.
If it simply entering a text code then easy but if it requires for instance using the Blizzard Authentication App that is a little harder. Not impossible but not something your average smurf would be able to do.
I think they should just drop the idea of maintaining Open Queue Competitive instead. It is definitely siphoning off support players who could reduce queue times in role queue, and it’s just not really sustainable to have two queues anymore. Move open queue to the arcade and stop encouraging people passively to use it by placing it in the comp card.
In OW3 they’ll reduce dps of damage heroes and re-introduce 6v6 with 1-3-2 composition.
