It isn’t because it has to be accurate, it’s because it seems like Blizzard made a bet to make a character that didn’t talke much effort.
I very much like that he has to work around his inability and how he uses creativity to solve the fact that he is indeed a slightly overgrown rodent!

Personally I just find it slightly goofy. Now I understand that this game isn’t trying to be scientifically accurate, but why a hamster? Of course in this game’s universe, animals can be engineered (genetically I assume) to have human-like intelligence, but did they really have to pick a hamster of all possible animals? There is such a variety of badass animals they could’ve picked. Hell, they should’ve just kept with the primate theme and made him a chimp or even an orangutan.

I think that’s my main complaint as well. Why they didn’t keep with the primate theme of Horizon Lunar Colony is beyond me.
I dont think its about him beeing a hamster, but rather way more how they made him look. He looks way to childish and sugar sweet, like he would come directly out of a disney movie:

I really dont know why they humanized his body proportions that much. If they made him only look like a normal hamster, like they kind of did it with winston, without blowing his face up to ballon size then i think much people would really like the concept.
Beside of that the voice lines of the robot are really spammy (commenting on every move and abiltiy you do) which gets super annyoing really fast.

I really can’t understand why Winston is OK to everyone but Hammond is suddenly so unbelievable. What is the difference exactly? Why does an intelligent hamster crosses the line while an intelligent ape doesn’t? Just because the later is a more famous trope?

Surely if you can justify reapers existence with simply saying “nanomachines” (which isn’t even entirely true), then you can justify Hammond’s inclusion by saying “genetic experimentation”

Mercy - Doctor, can hover with high tech suit.

Winston - Modified ape with high intelligence.
All make sense, ALL SCI-FI. If you think OW is outlandish you need to play more games.
An ape makes sense, they are VERY intelligent animals in real life to the point it made us question PERSONHOOD. A hamster? Get that out here and give us a chimpanzee or something.
…or better yet give us a proper male hero instead of… this.
