"We hate Overwatch now because apparently a Hamster is not scientifically accurate"

Apparently people think Hammond sucks because he’s not scientifically accurate, but can we just look at the rest of the roster for a second here?

-A large, muscular Russian woman who can control gravity
-A robot who managed to reprogram himself from being evil to being nice
-A man who survived a nuclear bomb
-A lady who survived a blizzard and can somehow turn herself into an ice cube and create a giant ice wall in mere seconds
-A man who died but literally revived as the grim reaper
-A Mexican woman who can magically hack people by just waving her fingers around
-A lady who can make anything she wants out of light
-An actual dwarf who can consume lava without dying
-A small British woman who can go back in time
-A dude that rollerblades everywhere and can rollerskate on walls (what are those rollerskates made of, anyways?)
-A lady who can fly with magical wings
-A levitating robot who summons the power of Buddhism and can animate orbs out of thin air
-A talking gorilla who is a world-renown scientist

But a scientifically engineered hamster is ridiculous

I really don’t understand people like that either.
I tried to argue with some of them, but you get nowhere. I’d wait like until he stabilizes into the game.
Moira had the same things being said about her. Remember when people were like “why are kamehamehas in overwatch, she doesn’t fit in, blah blah”?
Now she’s earned her spot.

Too many edgelords around here

You’re probably right. I’ve seen the developers of this game get pressured into making lore and character changes due to heavy fan backlash before, and I don’t want them to do something drastic like remove this character or something. He’s insanely creative, super cute, and probably the most fun tank to play so far. That’s what I’m most afraid of.

The people who say he’s too unbelievable often ignore the fact that literally everything else in this game doesn’t make sense and that’s the beauty of it.
Also Winston. They always, always ignore Winston, or say that he’s the exception, o something.

Yeah, I’ve seen people say ridiculous stuff about Winston like, “he doesn’t count because he was in the original roster” because apparently that exempts him from being scientifically inaccurate

Stop with this right now.

Like countless people said before, consistency is not the same as realism.

Just because Symmetra’s hard light is basically magic disguised with made-up techno-mumbo jumbo to sound like science, it is completely unrealistic. Yet it’s part of the established world and consistent with the setting. Hanzo’s dragons can be explained with nanotechnology and similar “solid” holographic projections. But this doesn’t mean that it’ll be ok or “consistent” for Blizzard to just straight up add an wizard to the game. One who literally casts magical spells.

A Hamster with genius human intellects pushes that envelope to the extreme.

Plus people can dislike the different tone of the hero compared to previous heroes.

I personally like Mr. Hammond, but I can totally see why some people might dislike him.

Yeah lmao I think I know who you’re talking about.
Anyways, like I said they’ll either come around with time, or leave.
Both are okay with me

I believe the majority are just upset that the character they wanted wasn’t revealed. I personally wanted Junker Queen, however I do like how he seems to control in videos. Now I just have to wait for console release.

I definitely do to, it’s just their rationale that doesn’t make sense to me.
People didn’t like Moira either.
Ehh, everyone is entitled to their own opinion

But he doesn’t have genius human intellect? Having human intellect would first require him to be able to speak. Which he can’t. Besides, the whole idea of Hammond was in the game since Winston’s origin story…people mostly speculated him to be a spider monkey, but him being a hamster and now being in the game doesn’t prevent the fact that he already existed in the story, regardless of whether he is a monkey or not.

Um… he built a combat mech with SCRAP. He’s the Tony Stark of the Overwatch universe. The fact that they decided having him talk would be too much is appreciated I suppose (though I actually want him to be able to talk lol).

There’s a difference between a gorilla being engineered to have human intellect, and a hamster.

I’d probably reassess my priorities if I found myself getting bent out of shape about a hamster in a game like this.

I’d reassess my priorities if I post a lot on a gaming forum, arguing about anything from lore to gameplay to balancing changes.

So in other words, I think we should all have our priorities checked LOL.

Lol! Fair point.

To be fair though, we don’t know how far their science went. We already know that Winston is a world-renown scientist that CAN speak and would probably be capable of winning a nobel prize. It isn’t too far-fetched to me for them to genetically engineer a hamster far enough to be able to build and control a robot.

I’ll avoid this part of the discussion since I don’t really care about the lore that much, but man this game is about fun…people need to let loose and just enjoy the fact that there’s a cute little chubby hamster in the game and just have fun. Being sticklers for lore (although I don’t necessarily agree with them) just ruins the fun for everyone.

I know you think you’ve got a great argument here, but this thread is a basic cliche as much as the people you’re complaining about are.

Read my reply to goliath. I hope you’ll understand where I’m coming from. This isn’t an argument for Hammond, this is just an argument against the people using their logic. I don’t want it to sound hypocritical because I don’t intend it to be.

Yeah that’s definitely how I feel. It pushes the envelope, but doesn’t quite break the lore imo. But that’s just me, like I said I can see how others will see it as too much.

Sym’s technology isn’t so farfetched, laser light can be pretty deadly so advance that further and turrets/shields.orbs of light might be possible…

Portal however…I dunno about that one…one would think if her Portals were to be possible…a Stargate Goa’uld Sym with a Stargate Portal oh yes baby
