Wave of false bans for cheating?

My friend got banned on his smurf 2 weeks ago, now I also got a ban on a smurf, even though I play on my 6yo main most of the time. I also saw some streamers got bans for cheating in last week. This has to be a mistake, because non of people mentioned actually used any cheats, including me.

Sounds to me like they’re cracking down on Smurfs rather than cheaters.

This… might actually be feasible… given most of the posts have come from low level accounts.

To my knowledge there haven’t been any official reports of false positives, so your best option is to take it up with support.

If there are false positives from the anticheat, filing a ticket with support is probably the best way for them to know something might be going wrong and to look into it.

Low level accounts are also most commonly used for cheating, too

Very rarely does a ban is unjustified. It could happen for sure but I wont believe it until the devs say so.

A while back, I noticed lots of freshies got banned for cheating/boosting. Accounts that were almost certainly leveled to 25 by someone else and sold to be used as alts. Some streamers were included in it and I know some people who were too.

Did you level the account to 25 yourself? You don’t have to answer - but if the answer is “no” - that might be why it got banned.

Permanent bans or just temporary bans?

I got permanently banned for supposedly cheating, and my appeal was denied!

It sounds like Blizzard is giving us what we want and asked for. :beers: :sunglasses:

Eliminating Players that are repeatedly purchasing NEW accounts for the sake of playing outside of their ELO or being toxic and disruptive.

I understand a player having 1 or 2 accounts. The second account being an “oops the account password is being gone” thing.

but not the whole - “last 20 accounts were banned due to cussing out a player over a hero pick” or Cliff diving in Competitive 1,000 times, while people are trying to climb. Just for some B role footage to their troll youtube channels.

I can understand horsing around in Quickplay. I do it for the fun of it, just to make other people laugh, or see if anyone wants to play lighthearted quickplay. But when someone is abusive in chat, or going out of their way to DESTROY a competitive match. Thats another story.

I mean it is so bad and disruptive in competitive play. That a person literally has to TIME their competitive Q times right BEFORE a Sale and the day of. So people can quickly play their matches before the level 25 smurffs circulate in and DESTROY competitive.

i don’t believe they actually wan’t to ban smurfs after 6 years of doing absolutely NOTHING about it. It one of the biggest ow problems since day one along with boosting and ofc throwing. Smurfing is money.

Now there is something really really important hidden behind this move and this is free to play. If they are going to make ow2 pvp free to play then money from alts are zero. So it might make sense that they actually start banning smurfs to bring back MANY low rank players who left bcs of their inability to save their own game from disaster.
