That’s right. Not played. So, feel free to disregard the post on the grounds of “duh, you didn’t even PLAY it” = fair and square.
Oh, you're still here? Let's roll then!
… be that as it may, here’s what I observed (streamers, former pros, returners and just randos with < 100 subs):
– Godscan is uncontested in DPS.
Reason to play, say Genji = none. All projectile heroes are just a joke. I shudder at the thought of Sojourn being added and getting some “powers” on her rail. It will be cringe. Something has to be done if the mode hopes to stay competitive. Right now it’s fresh and unsolved. Once this is done, playing hitscan will be a must.
– Hard-counters are terrible.
Want to win, play Zarya, she didn’t get hard-counters. D.Va is just miserable, even with beam counter because D.Va has to waste the slot on it while Zarya’s slot there will be filled with something much better than simply allowing her to exist.
– Competitive mode with anti-competitive mechs
Why give so many auto-aim-locks? Soldier, Juno, etc. Sure, I don’t argue that it’s fun to play - but it leaves with little room for a counter-play and goes against competitive mode philosophy. So … why?
– Some healers are just built different.
I was expecting Ana to come on top … again. Boy was I wrong. She’s still decent, but - hey, after seeing the horrors of Juno and Moira (again, auto-aims), I think the only reason to play Mercy is to challenge yourself. It can work, but if you can make it work, you will be 300% more effective on “good healers”.
That being said - the mode is still awesome! For the first time I decided to look up different heroes - even those I never play - and enjoyed seeing them for hours. This mode is what OW should have been getting to deserve the "2" label. We finally got it. So credit where it's due.
So: balance fast, iterate quickly, watch feedback, don’t let it devolve into a game of a few kings and the rest of them peasants. And you’ll be golden.
