Why did I stop playing New World when OW2 came out? I thought it would be worth and the game would be a major improvement to OW1.
Back in the day (2017-2018), I was around ~3300 genji otp. I broke 2 razer mouse playing competitive back then (it felt weird getting double headshotted by a random mccree when I’m dashing 100 ft in the air). I stopped playing knowing it was my fault for not enjoying the game properly (being a onetrick, it was my choice and I understand it’s wrong).
I came back to OW2 after 4 years, with a new mindset thinking everything would be better now. I play soldier 76, pharah and ofc genji. I’m plat 3 currently and I’ve never felt worse about ranked.
You lose? Nothing changes. You win? Nothing changes. Where is my SR gains/losses?? Don’t you think I should know what teammates I am matched with or who my enemies are? Back in OW1, when we saw a Masters widow on the enemy team, we triple teamed her with full dive until she switched so we can play the game. Now, I have no clue who is good or who is worse than their teammates.
I win 7 games, I stay the same rank. It feels like I’ve wasted 4 hours of my time for nothing. Show me the CONSEQUENCES of my performance, I need this visible or it’s not fun for me. And it’s definitely not competitive. I feel like I’m playing quick play with more toxic teammates.
Not to mention 60-70% of my games are a stomp (either us or the enemy). Why is that? My guess, you hid the SR in order to avoid reports of unbalanced matchmaking. I think when the enemy hard stomps us (and it’s usually 1 of the dps or the tank) it’s because I’m matched against a high diamond or master, when the highest rank in my team is max plat 3. This goes the opposite too, when I stomp them and I look their reactions and movement, it feels like I’m watching one of the bronze to GM youtube videos with bronzies running around like crazy not knowing what’s happening.
Long story short, I’m going back to MMOs as it’s far healthier until you fix your competitive system and make the SR visible for everyone. And I couldn’t care less about snowflakes wanting privacy on their rank, play quick play then.

They like to hide things…

What is the point tho? A genuine question.
They didn’t bother to fix anything and just hid it to grab people’s cash for battle pass and let the game rot? Or are there so many butthurt people crying for hidden ranks because they’re ashamed to be bronze/silver?

I personally never cared about seeing the individual number move up and down so I am fine with the new system. A lot of people do seem to care about it for reasons that kind of escape me. When we could see the number in OW1, people would complain all the time about the way the number moved saying it didn’t have anything to do with the game they just played.
Both systems get complaints. Their game psychologists prefer the more macro adjustment of rank to the micro adjustment for positive player engagement. I can’t really speak to that because I never really cared about the numbers in the old system anyways.
The point of a competitive mode is to appeal to people with a competitive mindset. That includes giving feedback on performance so people can improve and climb if they wish. The current system is a complete failure in that regard. Rather than just having the old SR number back we need a proper post-game summary in addition to the rank update.

They cater to the Participation croud.
Over the years look at all the changes to hide your performance.
- They removed Win percentage from you overall stats.
- They defaulted everyone to private profiles
- They removed SR ratings from team setup screen
- They removed your SR rating change after each game
- They removed Cards
- They removed on-fire statistics

This would at least let you know what is going on.
They need to all all that crap back. We got to many battle royal type games
OW competitive is like a gacha game, where the currency is your time.

On an account that I have had since 2015, i placed in B5 where i was previously gold. On an account that was created earlier this year i placed S1 where i was gold. The only difference is the date of account creation. Yet they are both quite different in placements.
It is like doing a B5 to GM where i specifically wanted to be B5 for content but i am not a streamer.

I have accounts like that as well.
Odd because I played the same as I would on my main but my other accounts are higher ratings than my main.

Exactly.
My prediction is that this game will either die quickly or they will introduce some sort of LP system for each rank like League of Legends. And they should, the current system is pointless.
I don’t understand why they need to appeal to everyone. OW is a competitive game and it should remain a competitive game. Why take out on fire stats? Why remove cards?
Is Blizzard actually scared what the worse players will do if they are informed that they’re worse or something?
I’m telling you at this rate, OW3 competitive will most likely be just Lucio Ball and in Quick Play they will even hide your name in-game.
