WASD Crouch Spam: What bad players do

You mean bad players don’t WASD crouch spam.

We do it because it makes it harder to hit us, obviously. We’re trying to make you miss your headshot.

It’s not that something is bad or good. It’s the circumstances and situations in which you use it that make it useful or strong.

This is why you’ll get stuck in master, most likely, you play with a sense of honor that doesn’t translate into winning matches where people are doing literally anything they can to win. You might have the aim to succeed but you won’t have the mindset.

This not me complaining because i can’t hit these spammers. It is easy to read their patterns after a 1 or 2 encounters. And i can stand on my own against most players in my skill bracket with or without spam.

This is about how this spam ability reduce the quality of sniper duels. When you crouch in medium to long distance your 4 pixel head moves about 12 pixels downward in milliseconds. And average human reaction time is about 200ms and add to that ping, input lag on your hard ware and other stuff there is no known way to react to this movement other than predicting it. Only way to shoot them is doing small micro flicks. But because of AD you have to take in to account medium flicks as well. There is no way to consistently hit these small pixel perfect micro flicks that i know of and no i have seen anyone capable of such. ( not even in pro level).

This is literally spam and pray. This allows bad players to take advantage of it and kill a more skill players due to spam even if it is a one time. And it is really bad if it happens at a crucial time of a match.

I don’t refuse to use it. I use it all the time in comps because i have to.

Well… cool!

Sounds like you answered your own thread.

Go watch soldier/Tracer/baby dva at a high level and you’ll see endless crouch and strafe spam.

Let me stop you there, you’re not expecting yourself to hit them on your first shot and flick to them right as they crouch, right? Spamming it means that they’re doing it consistently and in order for that to happen both Widows must be alive for more than one shot timing, meaning they both missed or one doesn’t see the other. You do realize how misinformed you sound, right?

Yes, there is a way to hit them: flick faster. If their strafing moves them completely out of range of your flick they’re either 2ft from you, you’re flicking way too slowly, or you’re trying to track them instead of flicking. A flick is a split second snap to where someone is, or will be in the case of projectile heroes. If you miss the flick it should be because your muscle memory was off and your shot didn’t hit them at all. A flick should be faster than your brain thinks because you do the thinking before flicking, deciding how far to move your mouse and when to click. This can be done extremely quickly if you’re warmed up and not senile. It sounds to me like you either A) cannot flick because of muscle memory or B) don’t practice flicking properly and are slow

Again, if you get to this point you should be able to predict their crouching and flick to them. This means that both Widowmakers have missed shots. There is no RNG, the first Widowmaker to land a headshot or two body shots wins. There is no chance, or luck, just aim and movement with a tiny bit of ping.

This thread is about voicing our opinions about certain game mechanics so that in hope of they get fixed. Same as in league pros had to play mercy to win in almost every game. But because of feed back of pros and players it changed for the better. ( well may be not so for the Mercy unfortunately )

Their goal is to win. I don’t know what yours is, but I play to win. I’m fine with optimizing my chances of winning. Sorry you enjoy losing, I guess…?

That’s fair.

But how you do “fix” a movement as essential as strafing in an online FPS? I think that is where a lot of the push-back on this topic is coming from.

It’d be like posting on a msg board for a racing game, and saying “everytime I try to pass someone, they cut me off and block me from getting by… can we remove this mechanic from the game?

I was going to do this but after a salty player told me too I’ve changed my mind and will now only play symmetra as to not anger my opponents by using tricks.

Wow, stop tryharding. I pick Roadhog now and just sit right outside spawn. If we somehow push the payload I sit on that, except the motion makes it kind of hard for the enemies to hit so I end up feeling bad.

Really, next time I get into a competitive game I’m just gonna leave. Why should I abuse broken mechanics such as playing the game?

Well i see that there is no point in me explaining more further as you refuses to see it. So good bye to you. Since you are wondering i play to improve.

You play the game? By engaging in such a selfish activity you’re exploiting game mechanics. I don’t even launch it anymore because I don’t want to take advantage of the lighting physics or the menu navigation.

You have a computer? I threw mine out once I realized I could take advantage of the internet. I live in a mud hut out in the woods and try to avoid doing anything.

Clearly you don’t, because you spend time arguing with me over the internet about a tactic that you have yet to find a consistent solution to. Notice how the professional players who are literally paid to constantly improve are never bickering on the forums? They play the game and get better. They don’t waste time complaining about things even if they had the time.

And before you say it, no, talking about something on stream is not the same as typing out post after post on the forums. Don’t even try.

You used mud to make a hut? Stop raping the natural world man. I just stand naked in the wind because I don’t want to touch more than my feet to the ground. Standing behind a tree to shelter myself would take advantage of that - I’m not a barbarian.

Some people, including one or two friends of mine, use a macro to bind crouch to left click when on Widow so they automatically drop shot…

It’s not beneficial, it’s just cheap and cheesy. I’m not here to justify that it’s a “legit strat” Because honestly I don’t think it is, it just reinforces bad habits and slowly stops you relying on your own skills as a player and slowly forces you to rely on a cheap method that turns your 1 step job into a 3 step process.

You exist? I have ascended and live in an ethereal plane where I can’t abuse broken mechanics such as existing. Git gud :triumph::triumph::triumph:
