Why is this even a message? The only people who even see it are the ones who main non-meta heroes or are playing Widow in low ranks. I never see it because I play supports mostly.
It’s just a toxic message from Blizzard and the community directed towards people who are just trying to play a hero they enjoy.
It’s not going to make the person stop enjoying their non-meta hero and is really pointless. I think this message should be removed. All it accomplishes is to make people feel bad when they are trying to have fun and are likely trying their best on the heroes they consider fun.
I had no idea this was a thing, to be honest. I’m a flex player which is probably why, and the only people I ever tend to avoid are ones who wont switch off (one tricks). They must get those messages a lot.
I think it only tells you this if you get avoided by a lot of people. I’ve never known it to happen when 1 person does it. It’s a common practice to rotate the avoid slots each game with DPS players either from your team or the enemies depending on who wins. People in my avoid slots rarely stay for more than a couple games unless they were hard throwing.
And people do this mostly because the matchmaker loves to group you with people from the previous game because they all queue at the same time (no matter what side you are on). It would not be necessary if the match maker avoided grouping you with the same people for at least 2-3 games.
Is this even a thing? Never saw the message and …me never being avoided? Somehow I doubt it, solely because of the amount of gametime I have collected these past weeks…
I started seeing this after playing sym and torb after I know the game is loss cause. attack torb with a hog and DVA or triple dps, I will just switch and play sym and try my best with sym.
Sorry if this comes off rude, I really dont mean it to be, but if you avoid the game why do you come to the forums? Just curious, trying to not sound mean
That’s not how I use that feature, I tend to add people the following people:
who are toxic
tanks who don’t get near the objective… ever (I’m not talking about Winstons/Hammonds who hop into enemy backline to kill lit healers then hop back but the tanks who never even try to show up)
healers who pocket one player exclusively
healers who don’t even try to heal (this is usually a Moira who is constantly flanking)
Most of the people who are added are in category 1. Most of the other categories are very very rare.
No, that’s not what I’m trying to communicate. My point is, whether this pertains to you or not, that it makes people feel bad for no reason. Let’s say you are trying your best but you keep losing or maybe you have a 50/50 winrate but you play a non-meta hero… You suddenly log in and you are greeted with this message, despite trying your best to help your team with the characters you have chosen.
It’s just kind of hurtful and mean to people who are trying, while also just a reminder that the community hates non-meta heroes for the Junkrat/Symm/Torb/Bastion/Widow/etc players out there. It’s unnecessary.
If the message was sent to people who are actually being toxic / throwing their matches, that’s fine. But sending it to people who are trying their hardest and just trying to have fun is almost like a middle finger to them. Maybe you disagree, but then again you probably haven’t seen the message so can’t relate to it either.
I saw it when I was watching a GM Junkrat main stream today (Chro).
Your queue times will likely be longer, you should at least know why so you don’t go running to the forums blaming random stuff.
It gives you a chance to amend your behavior if you are so inclined. If you don’t know people are avoiding you, you will never have the the opportunity to change your path should you decide you prefer not to be avoided.
Avoid as Teammate is used for a lot of reasons, and those reasons are personal to the person clicking it, not the person being avoided.
You don’t get to tell people you feel bad about being cast out for behavior they were given the option to avoid, and it gives a really good indicator to that person that their behavior needs to be amended in some way.
If you’re one-tricking to the point that hundreds of people are avoiding you(as is necessary to set off this message), it is absolutely possible that your selfish behavior is negatively affecting the quality of enough people for you to need a reminder not to continue doing whatever you were doing, regardless of your reason.
Because its like the you’ve been reported a lot message, blizzard is saying you might want to change what your doing before you get 50 minute que times
You know, I’ve only avoided a few people, and none of them were due to hero selection. They were all because people were making commentary so innapropriate, Trump would blush.
As far as I’m concerned, those people can surely handle the personal shame of knowing people don’t want to play with them. And if you’re truly being avoided because you play an off meta hero: who cares? That means you’re more likely to get matched with those who do want to try and synergize with you.
I main Sombra heavily and I’ve never seen this. My wife plays Reaper and Sym heavily, and has never seen this. Anecdotal does not mean factual, but I highly doubt that hero selection is the cause.
Toxicity, or even just bad teamwork or positioning is much more likely.
