The likelihood of you ever going pro are slim to none. Same with being a popular, rich streamer, or getting a scholarship out of this. It’s not worth caring so much that you let the game get under your skin and you start to hate the human race (There’s enough other legit reasons to become a misanthrope and hope for genocide).
I’m not saying stop caring completely, but stop caring so much. It’s not worth the aggravation.
Play it like a QP Plus mode. Play what you’re good at and just communicate more. If you lose, so what. It shouldn’t matter because again, you’re not going pro and you’re not going to be the next rich streamer, and until you’re like top 50, no one cares about you and you’re still practically a no name except for a very lucky few.
Your happiness and contentment in life shouldn’t change going from 1000 SR to 3000. If your goal is to get a high rank to become popular, and losing is preventing that therefore pissing you off, you should probably channel that ego into something else in life that actually matters, because this doesn’t.
You need to understand something…OW is literally a waste of time.
It’s a fun waste of time, but that’s all it will ever be. it’s not important to the functioning of society or its prosperity. It’s entertainment. Its sole reason to exist is as an outlet for creatives to channel their talents into something that is fun enough for people to spend money on so they can get a paycheck and make Blizz’s investors happy so they can buy a new yacht and a summer home every year. Keep that in perspective.
As a Brigette one trick, I completely agree with this!!! You should play for fun!
(That’s why I mute comms and chat). This game is wonderful when all you hear is the game.
Also I don’t like my enemies having ANY fun, but thats easy because I play brig <3.
I used to hate hate her but now I love her she’s the best thing that happened to the game since doomfist.
I would refine the sentiment slightly and say that over 50% of the player base is in the SR range 2000 - 3000.
If you are under 2000 SR you should probably ask yourself if you want to play a team based game.
If yes its probably worth spending a bit of time figuring out what your biggest mistakes are so that you can get into Gold.
If no, I would question if overwatch is the right game for you, simply because you may find a non team based game more fun, that said If you are enjoying yourself who I am I to tell you anything…
The majority of us are in Gold or Plat, you can easily move your SR up or down 100 SR in one night of playing so realistically there really isn’t much point fretting about your SR if you were good enough you could probably climb 1000 SR in a couple of days of playing, so its really not worth fretting too much about SR - just focus on improving you skills.
I don’t have any frame of reference for > 3000 SR so I don’t have anything to say there…
i think they should split up the ranks more so there is more sense of achiement even if you only go up a little. literally something like 70% of the playerbase is in 2 ranks. diamond and above are a super small percent of the base that most people wont have the time and effort to even want to be in them.
split up gold and plat ranks more, yeah overall it wouldnt make any difference but i think casual players would be more encouraged to play better if there were more levels acessible to them, and maybe split up the competative points across them more so even more incentive to play well in gold and plat.
like i climbed up to plat but didnt feel any sense of achivement because of how bad the rank snobbery is in this game. basically anyone below diamond is considered trash. and below that when you climb you dont feel any achievement and then when you lose sr you dont feel any incentive to win it back.
When you have higher ranked people talking down to, insulting and otherwise being jerks to people below them, I see how that can happen.
It’s not even the SR, it’s the losses that are flat out due to the matchmaker putting over-ranked or poorly playing people on your team. When you lose repeatedly due to circumstances beyond your control, it starts to put a real damper on any fun you can have.
In the worst cases it becomes a learned helplessness, and that definitely isn’t fun.
You said it. I used to play so much of competitve in the earlier seasons it took a toll on my mental health when I was on a huge loss streak. Then I realised, no one’s gonna become a pro or a rich streamer or famous by hitting diamond or so.
So I stopped caring. I still try my best to win. If we win, good. If we lose, well, too bad. Try again. Now I laugh at those who throw a fit or even cry on VC when we lose. It’s worrying yet laughable.
