This seems more like a problem with poor management at the team level rather than a problem with OWL itself.
But nice try to witchhunt OWL for problems it doesn’t cause ![]()

A company who tries to pride themselves on professionalism firing people via twitter and not privately to their face.
I’m only laughing because the level of irony revolving around this giant corporation is massive.
Didn’t he end up on Outlaws, which was formerly owned by IGC after Optic folded? I’m not surprised in the slightest that he got done dirty twice by IGC. Garbage org.
i believe he first came to the league with LAV until they decided to replace their entire roster and then came to the mayhem and got zero match time and then got told either via twitter or text that he was gone, i am not entirely sure
sadly there seems to be plenty of dodgy people in the entire league
Oh, Mayhem, the notoriously trash org that has set the bar for treating their players poorly. Good old Tviq, team bus driver because Mayhem couldn’t be bothered to pay for transportation for the team to get to the Blizzard arena.
Ok so basically, this team named the New York Excelsior had 2 support players at the start of the season. During the season, they signed a third support who was almost 18, so it looked like they were planning to integrate him into the support rotation once he became of age.
However though, once he became 18 recently, NYXL apparently decided to drop one of their original support players so that the new guy would be a mainstay. This happens sometimes, since it’s an eSport, but they didn’t tell the guy they dropped that he was essentially getting fired. He found out through Twitter.
The guy who got dropped is Myunbong, by the way. Adam is a different situation, but a similar one.
Myun (I can’t post his full nickname cause it has a bad word
) found out he was dropped from a tweet and was being replaced by Ansoonjae. ![]()
I’d post Myun’s tweets, but I can’t cause he has bad words in his name.
While the teams are 100% at fault for stuff like this, I think the League should do better to build in protections for players.
wake up babe, the OWL always sucked
Protection for players: First one can start by not announcing their business through social media. If the players want to do so, then that’s their choice, but why are these organizations even posting this? It’s completely absurd.
If I wanted the world to know that I’ve been fired, I’ll let social media know. Certainly don’t need someone else to let the world know for me.
Not excusing this….but that’s a team not OWL doing this….
and let’s not act like “professional” organization automatically means these things don’t happen….any formula1 fans here? That’s about as professional as it gets….anyone seen the clownery going on there in recent weeks?
Granted I don’t really know much about other games’ competitive scenes and if they get managed as badly as OWL does but if I were in OWL I would have tried to jump ship back in 2020. OWL at this point could be used as a case study on what not to do when attempting to manufacture an eSport.
Ty meteor. Oof. Oof. That’s rough.
You tune into OWL?
O_O
NYXL had a problem where they had 2 3 flex support players. The decided to pick up Ansoonjae, who was on toronto defiant in 2021 and Talon esports in contenders thtis year. He plays the main support so Mercy, Lucio and Brig.
Nyxl then decided to let go of Myunb0ng. One of their flex support players. They made a tweet of saying goodbye etc. the problem is they either posted it too early, or didn’t inform Myunb0ng fast enough because he had no idea he was being let go of the team and found out from twitter.
Crappy situation for everyone really. The NYXL team that manages the twitter, I guess were told to post it, so they did. Now they are getting hate for making a “mistake” even though they were doing what they were told.
Oh btw, is he fired as of now or on his way out or what’s the deal, how’s it work? Like I imagine they’d want to keep him as an alternate for a while. I know it’s a lousy situation just wondering how immediately bad it is for the guy.
NYXL had 3 support players. Got 1 then Removed another. So right now they have 1 main support and 2 flex supports.
dam competition is fierce at that level. even if i had the talent i dont think i could handle it ![]()
also most of these players are young. late teens or real early twenties so yea kinda sucks they get taken advantage of but its not as bad as getting drafted and getting put in a war heh
OWL has always been bad IMO, it isn’t something that happened naturally, it’s driven by corporate greed and not enjoyable at all since it’s all corporation. Most fighting game tournaments and competitive leagues are almost entirely player driven. MOBA competitive leagues are usually corporate backed at the highest levels, but at least League of Legends has a dope music video and really respects their players.
OWL doesn’t have the soul of being organized by actual Overwatch players that are just passionate about the game, and also doesn’t really do anything interesting with being corporate backed since the OWL and Blizzard as a company doesn’t really seem to care about or respect their players. OWL is just another useful way to make Blizzard money, it’s all really, really soulless and I feel bad for the players that genuinely love this game and want to get better at it if OWL is the only thing to look forwards to in their overwatch career.
He’s gone from the team completely. He will be LFT (Looking For Team for anyone not into this stuff) and hopefully picked up by another team. Myunbong hasn’t been performing great this year, but that’s no reason to drop him like that.
It’s not just the forums. OWL gets alot of flack on Reddit too. But I don’t know if irrational hatred is what’s common on here.
I think most of us just wish Blizzard would realize OWL isn’t their road to success.
Can you please share some of this evidence?
