Voice Chat ERR: Failed to find matching input/output device

can’t actually join voice chat. When i click the headphone icon to join, nothing happens except theres a microphone button next to my name, but theres no use in clicking it. I cant hear my teammates or speak.

Already tried setting default device and banning all other devices, didnt work

the error message in overwatch.log is:
[10740] [ERR] [VoiceChat] [External(0)] [External()] [2023-10-13T10:05:47.638Z]: ==[VC] Failed to find matching output device

Looks like Overwatch doesn’t have access to your communication device to output sound. If you’re using a Bluetooth headset, it may not have enough sound channels to support both voice chat and game sounds.

I have considered the possibility of microphone permission issues, but I cannot find where Overwatch has applied for microphone permissions in the Windows 11 system settings, nor have I found how to manually grant permissions.
I am using a 3.5mm headphone and a USB interface microphone, so not Bluetooth devices.

Is the headset designated as a comms device in your audio settings? I don’t use Win11, so no idea where the setting is now.

They also have a support doc here:

I already set my headphone and microphone as both defalut devices and default communications devices. This support doc didn’t solve the problem for me… Btw, switching to the comms device in the game settings doesn’t work either.

You may want to open a ticket, as the staff may have other tips.

Unfortunately, after I opened a ticket, the GM only provided me with some clichéd suggestions such as restarting the computer or disabling the firewall, and advised me to come here to ask for help.

I’m not sure what else could be causing the problem. You could try asking in the Windows forums to see if anyone knows what’s up.
