Hello all, I am new to this whole forum thing but anyways my question is (if you couldn’t tell from the topic) about Voice Acting, I currently do tons and tons of Voice work on YouTube and have been doing it for 6 almost 7 years now. but i want to do more professional work. i love doing it and would love if someone could help me figure out how to get my foot in the door? i would love to voice as a character in Overwatch, but if anyone knows someone like an agent or someone who has an agent could you please contact me? I would greatly appreciate it.
There was a whole question dedicated to this on one of the panels and I think it was answered by lucios voice actor such as saying certain websites and what you can do (the guy who voices winston owns one he talks about) but I’ll try to find the video
EDIT - watch from 44:40
Going through it I was kind of wrong on some of the detail and it might not be exactly what your looking for but I hope it’s some help and good luck on whatever happens

Google is your friend.
I’ve been trying google for the past 10 hours at least. that doesn’t even include the past 6-7 years xD
Acting agent with a focus on voice talent, contact the Screen Actors Guild via their website.
I too, would love to be a voice actor, but I can only voice sexy characters.
Legit question: Where do you live?
If you want to get into professional voice acting, you have to LIVE where the industry is. You’ll have to go move to southern California for any possibility of getting a chance at being in Overwatch. They send out general audition calls in foreign countries for bi-lingual actors to voice characters like Ana and Mei, but you gotta go to the industry in California to get started.
The new writer Alyssa Wong, her twitter says she lives in North Carolina though?
Also, voice work is chosen from all over the world and VA’s are Skyped in most times if need be. They seem to be the most flexible in terms of contact. (Matilda Smedius lives in Stockholm)
For US, I think they even do calls from NY and such so again, I don’t think it’s a problem.
Yeah, i live right outside of Boston
I’ve always wanted to do VA, even if I’m so shy about my voice (I sometimes sound like a 10 year old girl).
As a professional voiceover talent myself, I have a few things to offer and some advice:
-
It is a CUT-THROAT industry, just as hard (if not harder) to make it big than on-camera acting. Very few people will climb the ladder high enough to have voiceover be their primary source of income, even those in SAG-AFTRA. Speaking of that…
-
To second what Atoli said, the truly professional gigs come from union work (SAG-AFTRA in this case) and offers like Overwatch VA auditions are usually booked by talent agencies/representation.
That being said, here’s what I would recommend…
- Talk to your local businesses and offer to do work for them (ask if they’re looking to advertise first, obviously).
- Save EVERYTHING you do! Archive your work and compile a professional reel.
- Once you have enough material, look for agencies that like what you have and are willing to work with you.
- DO. EVERY. AUDITION. THEY. SEND. YOU! I cannot emphasize this enough, you only get out of voiceover what you put in. Expect that for every 100 auditions you do, you’ll get maybe 1-3.
- Build a name for yourself, get a website, put yourself out there!
Good luck, it’s a very tough but also very rewarding job to do. Hope to hear you soon!
Speaking of OW VAs; I found this interview very interesting. Keith gives some advice on how to get into VO and how he started out.
Well like i said i have been doing it on YouTube for years, But nothing on YouTube is really top notch at all. there is a playlist of all the things I’ve done there of like 50 or so videos and that number is only going up. but its nothing incredible like TV wise or anything at most all together a few thousand people have seen my voice skill. maybe 100,000 at most i’m not positive though. so until now, that’s really my source of a resume i guess. do you know of any agents that i could try and contact? or no? i do appreciate your help.
Why not post your Youtube id if you want Blizz to see your work.
because all the videos I’m in are like 15 minutes or an hour and 30 minutes and long. i would have to make a whole separate video and just cut out all the roles i have done in each project. but i probably will do that. i also just have a flat out demo as well i could add to it
