Personally i found that ventures kit is a bit more lame than presented for example you should be able to dig under meis ice wall i feel like a character whos thing is burrowing they should be able to get under places normal characters shouldnt
So the dig feels very lame and unimpressive imo not only that but venture needs another ability most characters have 3 or more abilities venture only has the two movement abilities
I guess they also have the melee boost which i love but a non mobile ability like a mine they put down or they put underground or something would be dope
Addendum if two ventures are digging and you as venture use the drill boost it should damage the enemy venture underground i think also if you as venture use the melee attack it should damage an enemy venture that is burrowing in my opinion just as a fun thing
I think these changes would make the character feel more reactive, fun, and fully realized <3
do we want every character to have baptiste level of role bloat? I’d rather just have something that’s fun to shoot with and some unique mobility (which we have)
Winston has two abilities, and he is one of the most well loved (and high skill requirement) heroes. old overwatch heroes had one thing they where good at, simple kits that where easy to understand but with some hidden skill requirement that differentiated high rank players from low rank players.
Venture is a return to that simple design philosophy. And they allow for creative players to experiment I can’t wait to see t500 players do crazy things with venture.
It could just be to do with the games hard coding. You can enviro kill Doom with Mei wall anywhere by placing the wall on his ult as he lands. It forces him under the map.
It’s possible they tried it but can’t figure out yet how to not force something below the map when going under the wall.
Some venture players know how to come in, do a great deal of burst damage, and use the combined mobility of dig + dash to escape with some amazing range/height- building shields and securing an elimination in the process
Others just die. and die. and die. and die again. Then to really change it up- they die once more.
This hero reminds me so much of DPS doomfist. Just trade the 1 hit of rocketpunch (which was never the best way to play doomfist anyways) for a much safer approach mechanic
Only time will tell. But my take for now is I think it has to do with the “doomfisty” nature of the character.
Characters like this have a lot of tools to get themselves “out” of trouble- But those same tools get them in to trouble as well. Doomfist was rather notoriously feast or famine as well- Even at high levels of play.
Characters like Venture and doomfist have a higher “reliance” on their abilities over their primary fires to interact with enemies. Not to undermine (lol) the importance of primary fire for either, but the bulk of the work is going to be done with their abilities, and then primary fire is threaded inbetween. These abilities are used to engage, disengage, as well as build/provide sustain, and deal damage.
Of course all heroes “rely” on their abilities- But when your character is using the abilities to do literally everything, theres a lot of potential to get punished for bad use of those abilities.
theyre good for mid range poke meta too since you can just spam from the high ground for big aoe and save cooldowns for dive gameplay and escaping
you can easily destroy entire teams on maps like illios by standing above the enemy and diving to secure high value kills, or just shooting at the ground for easy elims
the people who dont learn their playstyle will just think they can walk up to the frontline and tank everything
the closest heros to their playstyle will probably be junkrat and out of fuel pharahs
