Forewarning, this has nothing to do with game balance. Its more about competitive integrity. Riot has been pretty decent about making sure that if you sign up for competitive game modes you are there to be competitive, as with most games that have a competitive modes. That is OW’s biggest failing, being in that mode to actually be competitive is entirely optional. To make matters worse punishments for bad intentions are practically nonexistent. In fact we have a laugh at how much people are allowed to get away with in comp. The ban waves frankly do not help because by then the damage has already been done. All Valorant has to do is be swift about punishing and banning those with ill intent and its bye bye OW comp. Currently I only care to grind the comp points for my next gold gun and then I’m likely never touching comp again till OW2 if any of the new tanks even appeal to me.
It will actually burry overwatch pro scene. But I didn’t play comp since we had double support bans and echo as a dps was the nail in the coffin.
dont worry guys, Overwatch will survive on youtube!
Overwatch isn’t competitive though.
Why thought? Most of the OW pro players won’t do that great in Valorant. CSGO pros will be much more likely to swap over and dominate in Valorant than OW Pros. They’re entirely different games. Also, why would OWL players leave their contracts for a game that’s not even released and has no esports scene yet.
Tier 2 scene, on the other hand…
Now Minecraft dungeons on the other hand…
If I see another valorant thread-
In its current form, not at all. Now if the devs cared to do something about it then maybe it could be. But its too late now, Riot has an easy task ahead of them when it comes to stealing all of OW’s competitive players. And blizzard will be left foolishly scratching their heads.
Valorant will steal much of the washed-up talent from OW, just like OW did with some League and CS players.
Won’t matter if the players are good or not as long as the competitive mode is structured to actually be competitive. That will be enough for most comp players to leave. Then blizzard will have to deal with most of us not wanting to play comp because its a cesspool.
No, I’m talking about the views. A valorant game looks much more interesting to watch than ow, and look at LOL, basically the most successful esports since it’s been going on for years. Plus you would be shocked that there’s ow pros who know how to play an fps.
Exactly. Already noticing most of the streamers who are so obsessed with the game before even trying it are the high tier players who were unable to make an OWL team like Kephrii, etc. Most of the OWL players don’t seem that interested, like they try it and have fun but aren’t gonna quit it. OWL player NeptuNo summed it up nicely:
LOL what. Every comment I see on Youtube or whatever of Valorant montages by Kephrii or whatever are people like “Why is this game so slow” “Why ais 90% of it standing by a corner”.
Valorant will not kill overwatch because they are 2 completely different games that appeal to their own kind of people. However overwatch is killing itself with poor balance decisions over and over. Who enjoyed playing the moth meta for 6-8 months ? or goats for i don’t even want to know how long or the 3-5 season long brig meta or the double barrier meta ? when it takes so long to make a patch that fixes the game for a short time it becomes very unenjoyable.
Not to mention things that should have been implemented almost at launch such as 2-2-2 for example.
OWL players already have their money, and not much at that. Big names like Kephrii made far more money than what OWL players do. Valorant is the new kid on the block so everyone is gonna check it out. They’re just following the money. If they happen to have a competitive scene and mode that people actually like those people will stay AND bring more people over from OW to.
I wonder how many times a game like this needs to come out, have a month of fame in the spotlight before fizzling out, then everyone going back to their original game, before people realize they’re in one big circle.
Because this people play ow. How int the hell can you look for opinions under a former ow player??? Plus OWL is nothing really serious, it’s just an overall mess with metas going on for months. They’re also trying to find a new interesting game that focuses much more on solo skill and less on team skill, with heroes who can literally be picked by any newbie.
Uhh huhhhh…
He’s a former CSGO pro too, he was the best Spanish CSGO player when he was only 15. He’s been through multiple Esports scenes, just because he’s an OWL player doesn’t mean he can’t have an opinion when he LITERALLY knows more about how esports work than any one of you randos commenting on here.
Yikers.
Kind of disagree with that. It’s certainly more entertaining to me than the Battle Royale fad (thank god we’re getting something different) but it’s still a lot of camping and people dying instantly. Totally different play style and not really as entertaining as a viewer for me.
On the bright side: If VALORANT “kills” Overwatch’s competitive scene like you claim, this should (hopefully) encourage the developers to ramp up the progress on OW2 before they lose too much of their community to Riot.
This. Watched 5 minutes of streaming after hearing the rage and I’m like…really? How is it fun to play a game of hide and seek that happens to involve guns that all seem to 1 hit kill? So it’s about 29% hiding or seeking, 1% shooting, and 70% waiting to respawn because you died before the rest of your team. FUN GAME
