Valkyrie is awesome (video evidence)

This

And This.

Valkyrie “enhances” all abilities, but Resurrect. It’s Resurrect that made Valkyrie an Ultimate. Valk is different from another Ultimates: it doesn’t give new stuff to Mercy, but make her more powerful in a limited time. They passed from Res every 10 s, to 2 insta-charge to 0 insta rez.
But why not try the SINGLE INSTA-RES while Valk? It isn’t tried yet.

They actually didn’t, but I’m glad you are replying to it anyways.

By that criteria, Mercy should have never been made lol. Mercy has been the most controversial hero since release, mostly because she’s the most played hero by far, and therefor draws a lot of attention. I’m sure that’s also why Blizzard made so many iterations, because they didn’t want to displease the Mercy players, and they were probably scared to do so.

I just have an issue with the length of Valkyrie. If they shorten it they can condense the power elsewhere.

Indeed… completely agree

They could have easily avoided that at any point by just once engaging with the Mercy players or acknowledging feedback instead of parroting the same colloquial narrative about the prevalence of the unhealthy behaviors created by a poorly tuned SR system that they refused to fix including for months even when presented with a database that proved it was in fact happening exactly as support players said it was happening.

Believe it or not, most Mercy players are reasonable people assuming those we discuss something with are willing to be reasonable.

I still think individual Rez Mercy could work. The only issue was you could rez the same person multiple times. If they made it 5 Resurrects all with a 1 second cast time with a max use of 1 Rez on an ally, and the duration of the ultimate becomes 8 seconds long I think that could work really well and would give that feeling of control over a fight.

Then give her chain beams as an E ability. Something she can frequently use during a teamfight to open up play making opportunities!

Honestly, close range mercy in valkyrie is the ultimate widow counter. It’s extremely annoying when you get dived by mercy in high masters playing as widow.

I’d highly suggest checking out Niandra on Youtube or Twitch, she’s a GM Mercy on PC who is overall against the rework Mercy movement. Her use of Valkyrie is very impactful and engaging.

Thanks for the informative post, Goldlantern.

As in many things in life, real and reel, things are what we make of them.

+1 for positive and constructive post.

P.S. Just to add, while many may dislike the idea of a “Battle” Mercy, personally when i do play her, i would seek always to add to the total damage out when healing is not a priority i.e. team mates are about 65-100% full HP. The reason for this may stem from my MMORPG and cRPG play experience whereby the cleric (healer) is expected to contribute to a fight by killing mobs and White Mages and other healers (in Final Fantasy XI and XIV) are expected to deal damage when healing is not an absolute necessity.

I actually love valkyrie, it can feel boring and unimpactful at times and when compared to other support ults, but being able to fly around opens up a lot of opportunities like killing a widow or something or being able to reach someone to rez them, etc and it’s a lot better after the buff. It’s more fun to me than mass rez was

The problem with these clips is that doing this in a comp game would more than likely get you mass reported and banned because the report system is so flawed right now. That and the initial design of Valk is just bland.

Multiple clips the DPS died when you went off to damage someone when they needed healing. If that was done in comp, I would have been banned more than likely.

Thats the problem with Valk and people who defend it: You can go off and kill snipers, but you’ll make your team pretty peev’ed when they’re low health and not getting that healing, resulting in reports and eventually a ban.

I think this is pretty true, and while the Valkyrie of that incarnation was super duper OP and should not come back, it highlighted what I think Mercy’s current struggle is (ult and otherwise). To be more engaging, she needs to have some decisions to make, which means she needs something to do that is a) possible to do, and b) more valuable than, simply holding LMB on her team.

I think Mercy’s basic healing may still be a hair too low—which is going to be tricky to balance, since her reliable healing means she shouldn’t do huge amounts of it at once—but it is also significant that when Mercy is healing, she can’t do anything else. For her to pull out her pistol, to rez someone, or even switch to damage boost, her team has to be doing okay enough on health that people won’t melt while she’s doing the cool thing.

With OP-Valk, Rez was fast and reliable enough that it was easily worth Mercy’s time to abandon her team to go attempt it. Current rez wastes 2 seconds of healing for Mercy’s entire team if she uses it in Valk, for an ability that risks her life and is not guaranteed to work, and battle Mercy is best used when you need to eliminate a threat you can’t out-heal. Damage boost can only be used if the healing isn’t needed, and healing isn’t enough to keep up with good primary fire from any of the DPS.

This means that healing is the least rewarding, tangibly impactful part of Valkyrie (and arguably of Mercy’s whole kit at the moment), but frequently is too necessary to stop, and ends up taking most (or all) of Mercy’s attention to do.

It can totally be worth going battleMercy with Valkyrie to take out a Widow, because that’s the best way to keep your team alive. But in other circumstances, you get a bigger DPS payoff by boosting your team and letting them do the work. But if your team is taking heat, you have to heal them instead of boosting them.

I think Valkyrie could be versatile and impactful if Mercy can heal while shooting/rezzing/etc. If Mercy’s biggest impact comes from the not-healing part of her ult, but her team needs the healing part of her ult, then it would smooth things out a lot and give Mercy a lot more impact if the healing was something that just happened, through an AoE or an auto chain to the nearest friendly or something. So Mercy would still have to position herself relative to her team, but Valkyrie would turn into “STAND BACK, I’mma do something”, as opposed to “I hope my healing is enough to keep my team up and maybe even do something”.

That might well be super duper OP, and it certainly would be a divergence from Mercy’s gameplay thus far, but it would give her agency as far as when/where/what to do with her ult, as opposed to “use it to boost my team or just go Rambo”

She does too little healing to justify picking her over Moira or Ana and her ult can’t save your team from ult combos like Lucio or Zen. I would rather them buff her healing back to 60 or buff it up to 55 and wait and see if it needs totally reverted.

Valkyrie is a nice E on 30 sec cool down.

Its not impactful enough to be considered an Ult.

I’m not disagreeing but

… that first clip you didn’t need to use valk to get up there and chase widow.

clip 2… i mean, did your ult contribute anything here? the fight is already won

ok i glanced through the other clips… what are you doing that you couldn’t do without valk?

the amount of times you stand in front of enemies and live is crazy to me… until i noticed this is on console. you wouldn’t really get away with that even in diamond on pc…

all i’m really getting from these clips is “Valk is fun to kill time because u can go chase after snipers”

You can do all of these clips without her ult. Valk isn’t what enables you to use your pistol. Which kinda shows again …how useless it is?

How have people still not understood by now that Mercy mains find Mercy boring, not that she isn’t viable.

Some say she isn’t viable sure, which is wrong, but it is pretty acceptable to say Mercy is boring as all heck. Valkyrie is part of why she is boring.

hmm… its almost like mercy’s a support. Who would’ve thought

(this is a joke please dont get tilted)

I mean given that Mercy in lore is a pacifist, if her kit did encourage the use of her pistol, it wouldn’t lend itself well to the character at all.

If/when Mercy gets more changes, the only changes I’d be ok with on the pistol would be taking away it’s power to give her healing more power. Mercy’s pistol should ALWAYS remain a tool for self defence. Not only because we don’t need more supports that can peel for themselves encouraging this dumb meta but also because it just ruins her character.

Lol, no. Taking cover for less than 2 seconds WHILE rezzing is VERY different than what Mercy players did with mass rez: Leave the teamfight for several seconds, internationally not healing and letting your team die you could then go rez them.

If you are taking cover while rezzing with current Mercy, you are taking cover WHILE rezzing. You are doing something for your team. With old Mercy, you “took cover” for extended periods of time WITHOUT doing anything for your team. Very different. Jeff literally explained this in the Rework announcement update video: “There was this weird moment where Mercy players would go off and stop healing their team in order to swoop in and get off a rez. We didn’t like the idea of a main healer hiding and not healing their team.”
