Us support mains have to admit

Maybe it’s not the worst thing that our role has been kicked down a peg for a while. The support role has reigned supreme as the strongest role in the game for literal years now and its heroes and utility have created some of the most gamebreaking and boring metas to ever exist.

I for one am looking forward to being open to dps more instead of perma heal tanks and just farm ults on repeat. I’m looking forward to not have to carry every single game and it not be my fault if we lose (because most games are usually tank or support diff).

Am i gonna die more now as a support? probably. Is that a bad thing? as long as balance makes it so im not dying every 2 seconds then i see no issue with that; supports average the least deaths in the entire game currently and gain the most value out of all the roles for being alive. At least now if i die due to bad positioning it doesnt mean my team instaloses the teamfight.

I’m looking forward to a change of scenery is what im trying to say. Im looking forward to not having to sit behind two shields and spam healing and broken utility all game. Im looking forward to being more open to dps as a support.

i just want change

If what they’re saying is true, and Lucio is back on top? OW2 gonna be my game. I have missed this era like you wouldn’t believe.

From what Super said in his video, the support meta is lucio moira

Brig and Mercy dictated the game for a long time

Tanks are strong too and they also spearhead a lot of metas. But in terms of the most important players on a team, i’d definitely say it’s the supports. As soon as one support dies it’s very hard to win a team fight.

Now we sit behind cover and await our doom with our watered down healing and utility.

Supports should be stronger duelists now, but like that will have the political will. Heroes like Mercy will become even more niche.

Mercy only dictated the game during Moth. Lucio + Zen was the support meta pre-moth most of the time with Ana sprinkled here and there.

I agree with Brig though, she took Mercy’s slot most of the time also.

Watered down utility ? What support utility has changed in any way besides brig stun ? Mercy rez stayed, mercy damage boost stayed. zen discord stayed, bap lamp stayed, bap matrix stayed. Brig whipshot stayed. What’s watered down about it ? You just need to be more mindful of how you use said utility now. You now can’t just haphazardly throw bap lamp down and get a ton of value, moira had no utility to begin with, she’s always been about raw damage and raw healing and from the feedback the streamers/pro players gave about the alpha, moira is actually more viable now. It’s not just brig zen bap or lose anymore

Also from all of the support footage in the alpha, i didn’t see anyone cowering behind corners just waiting to die.

Yeah because sig definitely doesn’t. And literally every other tank with maybe 1 exception.

Yes, I’m looking forward to once again be throwing when picking Ana on console.

Viability and risk management depended on your teammates which there’s a lot less now. Rez is even easier to punish now. It has even less player agency now.

Who cares, now Mercy is even more niche and less of a generalist which was her original vision by Jeff. Mercy should never be niche in 5v5 considering her mobility – yet she clearly is if no changes are taken.

Mercy needs serious changes.

The idea of Mercy being a generalist died after the moth nerfs. Since then she isn’t a generalist anymore and that won’t change going into overwatch 2. Overwatch 2 shouldn’t be scapegoated for mercy being niche since that transition happened years before.

any support player who is malding over ow2 should not be playing competitive pvp games.
ow1 has be ruined by fragile heal bot support players who cant stand losing to skilled players and insist on having shields and 1 button counters to everything. the pve is what they should play. ow2 support role is for people who don’t mind thinking about their positioning, managing resources and hitting their shots.

Screw Mercy players then, not a smart idea considering Mercy has the highest population of fans out of all the heroes.

We can have a separate discussion about the state of mercy over the years but this thread isn’t about that lmao. This has nothing to do with mercy’s post moth state. This is to do with the state of support in general in ow2 and why i feel like support players are extremely exaggerating an experience they haven’t played yet.

Supports are only free food for good DPS players. And said players are few and far between. Majority of the player base cannot utilise characters like tracer/genji/sombra to even 50% of their maximum efficacy.

Again i’m not sure if you’ve watched the alpha gameplay being posted everywhere but while supports were seen to be dying more, it’s not this apocalyptic “never leave spawn, can’t play the game, lemme just cower in fear behind this wall” situation that everyone thought it would be.

This isn’t me saying the balance looked perfect for overwatch 2 and that certain supports don’t need tweaking or a bit of help and love from the balance team. It’s me saying the general direction is a good direction.

Yeah, during an OP rework that no Mercy player asked for .

I wouldn’t say supports dominated the game, healing dominated the game, at ow 1 you can’t play without healing, healing is so strong that it can make bad plays viable, it encourages poor positioning and team dependency as the game is balanced in around an existing cure, if you as support die in ow1 your team automatically loses, it encourages a lot to be defensive, so all the goals that dominated the game for a long time were GOATS defense goals, Double shield etc.
