Unwinnable games aren't fun

I’ll preface by saying this isn’t an I can’t climb post. This account is top 500 range, just short on wins needed for the leaderboard and probably will remain that way as I’m putting this game down for the forseeable future.

Unwinnable games aren’t fun. It’s not enjoyable to outperform your counterpart on the opposite team by a large margin and watch them win anyways because 1-2 people on your team have half the damage/elims and twice the deaths of THEIR counterparts. It’s even less enjoyable to watch this happen 6-7 games in a row. After the 7th game I realized I’m sitting here wasting my time on a regular basis to actively NOT have fun, closed the game, and uninstalled. The matchmaking is truly atrocious, it genuinely may be the worst I’ve seen in any competitive game I’ve ever played. The gameplay itself is top tier but unfortunately that doesn’t mean much when the games themselves are miserable. It’s been 1.5 years and 10 seasons of Overwatch 2 and at this point I don’t think the current development team has the knowledge or ability to fix it. Hopefully in the future more competent developers are brought on to fix the issues that the current team isn’t capable of resolving but until then this game is not worth playing from a competitive standpoint.

Do better Blizzard.

The mechanics behind how players are grouped needs a complete overall. Ive had more team mates that play as if they just downloaded the game this season then any other.

I cant play rank unless I want to keep deranking from stomp after stomp after stomp.

I cant play qp cause now its games that I have to watch my teammates feed and wonder off all over the map and I cant even leave without penalties.

Yall DEVs taking all the fun out the game.

I really hate the state of OW.

absolutely agree, I used to be a dia support, now hardstucking Gold for over 200 games, watching these dps playing on auto pilot mode is depressing, OW just to be fun, bad but still fun, now just feel helpless, OW devs prolly think matching different role of counterparts with same skill ceiling is good way to fix smurf lol. A good supp having good winrate should be matched with a good supp with same winrate, not some 80% winrate dps widow onetrick.

Played support today. Someone starts off by saying “haven’t touched this game in 3 months”, the other guy “I haven’t touched it in a year!”.

It was a terrible game.

It’s super obvious how they’re grouping and it’s not fun. There needs to be a time played layering. If I’m constantly playing and trying to get better, plz don’t pair me with someone(s) who barely play. And it’s easy to implement this.

Not everyone plays the game daily like you.

Obviously, but man the spectrum between months and years off to daily are vast and wide.
Pair those folks together let me have a nice strategic challenging game.

No? They have similar MMR as you. Crack on.

It was, you just lost it. You let people get in your head instead of coming up with a strategy to overcome the challenge

Let’s keep this thread going, Agreed Time Layering is needed. WipesWet is going to be in every thread like a job. Just mute n converse

Yea I mean it’s pretty simple… however this last few days, kinda lost faith in the devs, but the time played layering could expire over time.

The issue… real smurfs are probably going to sky rocket to the top of rank cause they’re playing against rust buckets.

Perhaps Mmr could be infused with time? Again pros and cons.

None of this is easy, and they sometimes have huge side effects, but man having two players not play in awhile sucks.

Yea , Im gettin lotta HOPELESS games here, where my dps cant get a single kill. You can tell right away, first 15 secs if its a winnable game or not.

It’s always the same for me. I get a nice kill. The whole team counterwatches and i’m useless the rest of the match. I swap. The whole team counterwatches and I’m useless.

GG> 38% winrate in QP.

Very true. I had two games I wanted to leave today. The other teams were way better than us. Before that I had a 2 win steak where we stomped the other team hard. I don’t get it. People are not at their proper ranks.

I noticed this too. I don’t know what’s going on. Did we get an influx of new players? I had games where my other DPS died 12 times when I died 2 times. Everyone else was around 8. I don’t know what these people are thinking. QP is awful.

Well, let’s see here.

You’re Masters support, which is no small feat, though it doesn’t necessarily indicate top 500 potential. Based on your playtime in comp, it looks like you main Moira, Lucio and Kiriko. Your win percentage on Lucio is a formidable 86%, though I suspect you played him through your placement matches (hence against weaker opponents) and since your playtime on him is only a few hours, those wins probably make a significant contribution to your stats. On Kiriko, a very mediocre 52% – though again, that’s mediocre by Masters standards. You can clearly play her at the level of your rank, but not above it. On Moira, only 41% – so you can’t play her effectively at the level of your rank, and I would guess she’s a crutch pick for you when you don’t know how to deal with your frustration.

You’re plat DPS, with just enough playtime to reasonably posit your natural rank is no higher than low to mid diamond – but if I were a betting man I’d say it most likely is, in fact, plat.

Taking a charitable view, I suppose that your game sense is decent, and that although you struggle mechanically, something about Lucio’s kit agrees with you and allows you to pop off, more often than not, when you play him. Unfortunately, Lucio doesn’t work for all team comps, and that won’t always be reflected in your own stats, it’ll sometimes be reflected in the knock-on effects on other teammates’ stats. Let me ask you: when you insist on playing Lucio, and when your teammates insist on playing heroes that aren’t compatible with Lucio, who’s at fault for the disadvantage your team faces? Seems like a team effort to me. Or conversely, if you’re usually the one switching to Moira when it feels like you have to because of your teammates, well, you might actually do better just sticking to Lucio.

Not trying to be toxic here, you’re undoubtedly a better player than I am (barring the small possibility of boosting), but you did invite scrutiny of your profile.

There are updates way too often for it to be that black and white. Im not losing because the dps on my team thinks that i as Moira should be the one to kill trace because when he last played (mid season 8) he always did the race and won… im losing that game because he’s respectfuly ignorant to the current games state. time away does make a difference when they change Hadid the rosters stats ever few weeks. I see your glass of copium and meet it with reality. This game changes too much for that to not have an effect on your games.

Ironic that he goes around telling people not to take the game serious. When literally nobody is except for him. I soft throw more games than I ever have since ow1 release. I would like to be able to take it a little bit more seriously but the current state of comp won’t allow me to.

I am not sure why you keep using this to defend the matchmaking process.

MMR can be, and often is, wait for it - WRONG.

It is a numerical value and it’s all the matchmaker has to work with, yes.

But whatever algorithm is determining what MMR you have is clearly not working properly all the time.

A boosted Silver player can have the same MMR as a GM.

Guess what? The MMR isn’t The Word of God proclaiming to the lobby that this player has the skills needed to play at a GM level, and everyone here is sick and tired of you gaslighting us that it is.

First game on today i had a dps who got 0 kills and doed 11 times on a flashpoint map, and the enemy bap got 20something elims and never died… balanced???

Edit: next game i played dps, or lucio/zen didn’t heal fully afk sometimes and fed until we lost… sick a fun game but I’ll be decent match eventually right. Match making can’t be that bad

Same. In OW1 I was Diamond in Tank/DPS/Support. At one point I even hit masters in Tank. Now I’m lucky to stay Plat 5 as support.

Unwinnable game after unwinnable game. The devs are garbage at their job. These last patch notes were abysmal. I honestly believe if Blizzard fired them all and hired fresh gamedev graduates, this game would improve.

The matchmaker is designed to do one thing and one thing only - ensure a complete stomp every game. Worst players on one team, best 5 players on the other team. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
