Unpopular Opinion: Sym doesn't need Durability

Haha you must’ve thought I lost my marbles, but I can assure you I have a direction with this.

Notice how almost every aspect of Sym 3.0 can do something related to range?

Every aspect except her primary.

And I think it’s her biggest weakness holding her back.

I think if they replaced it with something more akin to zarya’s secondary with a debilitating effect added on, it would finally help her find solid ground.

Maybe continuously getting hit by it would cause some kind of minor slow. Or it could be as simple as having shield bypass.

Shed be like Zen where she can stay effective without having to be up in their face at any time.

Make damage to sheilds restore her shield health instead of reloading ammo.

Or maybe let her primary pierce shields and hit the first player it comes into contact with behind the shield that way she ACTUALLY counters tanks -_- and that so called amazing buff letting her regenerate ammo when hitting a shield will actually be useful cause hint hint if your hitting a shield ur not hitting the enemy  why would i hit a barrier if i have the choice of hitting the enemy.

The only circumstance thats actually useful in is if an Orisa leaves her shield unguarded or a Rein who refuses to put the shield down. Good for getting that tickrate up.

Good, Symm deserves it.

Faster orbs. 30mps. Can be held like a Hanzo arrow. Done.

This is what I kept saying. She has enough range outside of primary, just change primary to something usable. Now, I feel like the primary isn’t entirely useless and actually get some work done with it. Maybe she could have 175 shield HP like Zen. But if anything, I think tweaks to several of her abilities to speed them up and make them feel less clunky, would be the best changes for her (though swapping out primary for her old orbs in conjunction with her current ones would be appealing too).

Fact is that none of the shield busters are taken seriously, even in a Rein meta. And this is precisely why.

Teleporter seriously needs a faster cast time and better durability

I’ve looked at Symm’s kit mostly like a swiss army knife, even when she was 1.0 or 2.0.

For 3.0:

  • I can use sentry for damage, watching a back line, flank, or even vision.
  • I can use a teleporter to get teammates out of a bad place, move them to a surprise location, get through a choke, distract an enemy team, or even get allies to a more advantageous location.
  • I can use Secondary Fire to deal damage, or deny area.
  • I can use Primary Fire to eat barrier or do some massive damage (if charged)
  • I can use my Ult to deny another ult, create a barrier to capture a point, or stall a point to force an enemy to come closer to me.

While I can’t really do any one of those things far better than other characters in the game, I can do those things.

And bugfixes, dont forget the bugfixes.

Randomly self destructing and problems placing them near railings was old several months ago.

I enjoy Sym as is - the only time I feel weak is when I tunnel-vision onto a tank using her M1. It definitely does feel at odds with the rest of her kit.

In the spirit of not reworking her again, I feel like the only thing I’d want them to do with her primary is allow it to penetrate targets like Mei’s M1. She would still be played mid-range but it would allow her to stack her 180 damage across multiple heroes/charge off of them.

She’d be the “flame thrower” hero, without having to actually have a flame thrower.

Sym simply needs to die

Here’s what I’d do. Remove the shield gimmick entirely. It sucks. Instead, if the beam is doing damage to ANYTHING it doesn’t use ammo. Then reduce its max ammo to 50.

What? It is a game winning ultimate…

Try placing it 90 degrees to what you normally place it. The trick is using it to shield weave, not to separate.

What? Are you on about?

Uh, no. I’m referring to the actual gimmick of her left click, not her ult…
