Unpopular opinion - I'm really enjoying OW2!

Hi all - big OW1 fan and been playing since it launched in 2016 but in the past year or so my activity dropped as content was getting stale; it is great to be back!

I’ll admit I wasn’t amazingly impressed by the preview footage of OW2, the change to 5vs5 and the lack of what appeared to be very much tangible updates.

Combined with that, I’ve sustained the same long queue times and login errors as we all have but I did have one weird issue that prevented me from even launching the game at all that I diagnosed and fixed myself. It was down to a Nahimic VR is a software 3D sound issue (details below):

Overwatch won’t actually launch PC - Technical Support - Overwatch Forums (blizzard.com)

However, now after getting my hands on OW2 - I absolutely love it! The game feels faster, fresher and more polished than ever yet still very familiar and not straying too far from its roots.

Gameplay feels fast and frantic in a good way - the dynamic seems quite different surprisingly than OW1 where your individual contribution really matters and that a single pick can easily turn the tide of a fight.

I haven’t seen a fight yet where it’s turned into a grinding stalemate you’d sometimes got in OW1 where your team just couldn’t break through on attack if you were just in a pickup match or you defended very well and just waited for the clock to expire.

I’ve played tank as Reinhardt (wow!..the beast we always wanted) and support as Ana and Mercy so far and it’s got a wonderfully familiar yet polished and fresh and … just great!

As an OW1 player, all my settings, key bindings, cosmetics, hero loadouts (skins, voicelines, emotes etc…) all carried over and has been totally seamless for me - having an OW1 account with so much unlocked feels like you have been rewarded for my 500+ hrs in the original and all those events

I love the interface, icons, font, menu system etc… - it has that unique ‘Blizzard polish’ that you don’t see with many other games

Totally free - not rammed-down-your-throat f2p nonsense or adverts etc… totally optional purchases - a very brave move (one I was dubious about) but well implemented.

Compared to blowing nearly £40 on BF2042, this is night and day an amazing launch.

Lots of negatively against Blizzard but you can tell the effort they have put into this and it really shows.

Well done dev team - really looking forward to the future of this game!

I’m only miffed about the skins prices and the battle pass lacluster rewards. But other than that, I’m absolutely lovin’ it

The only thing I’m adjusting to is not immediately uppercutting as Doomfist. Instead I jus kinda stand infront of the Ana with my fist infront of me like some bullied 9 year old.

This. The skins are extremely overpriced but the game itself is no doubt a straight up upgrade from OW1 gameplay wise. It feels chaotic in a good way. People say that team play doesn’t matter anymore but that’s just straight up false. The game is incredible.

Good comments here - I’ve studied the battle pass track and I can see the free line is very, very sparse.

There should be the occasional Overwatch coin drops here and there (even if they were small) so you can at least unlock something for free.

With the removal of the hero portraits / star system - you haven’t even got that to display at the moment.

Here’s hoping the progression feels more rewarding as they expand the game.
