Unpopular opinion: I dont want Role Queue to be implemented

Am I the only one that’s actually against role queue in Overwatch? Like, how does forcing a role for a person fix the current meta and matchmaking? I’ve heard from people and from videos how role queue can help “force team comps and can kill GOATs” or something like that, but again, how? What if you decide to queue as healer, and end up being teammates with 3 tank mains and 2 other healer mains? I’ve had games where my team was on a 2-2-2 with me as a healer (ana main btw), lose the first round so bad, we decided to shuffle our roles around and I ended up being the tank, and we ended up winning our comp match. I even had matches where we had 4 DPS, 1 healer, and 1 tank and still end up winning. What I loved about role switching is the unpredictability of the players and how they adapt. Implementing role queue will just lose that. This sounds more like a band-aid solution than an actual solution.

If you want team comps and metas to shift, maybe hero banning would be better? I dunno…

Definitely not

If they signed up for that role, they signed up for it because they are capable of playing that role at the skill level in-question

yeah and thats where the problem lies, cus ive seen people claim that role queue can “kill GOATs”, but it might not

If you are forced to run 2-2-2 you literally cannot run GOATS. I’m not sure where you’re coming from on that point?

I think you dont know what role queue would be. It would FORCE 2-2-2. you could only have 2 tanks 2 healers and 2 dps. You would only get a match with people that would have signed up for those roles

again, there might be a slight possibility that when you go queue as healer, you might just end up with 3 tanks and 2 healers.

Yeah I don’t want a forced role either, sometimes in a game you need to switch roles to counter something strong the other team has that your team isn’t handling.

my main complaint is that forcing roles would be detrimental if your team wants to shift out of their roles all because they are forced to stick to their roles. what if you are running a 2-2-2, but in the middle of the fight you guys decide to go 4 DPS, 2 healers, and 1 tank? Or maybe even shift to GOATs?

No there’s not. The proposed system would always put 2 DPS, 2 tanks, and 2 supports on the team. You should watch the interview where Jeff talks about it if you haven’t already.

No one run GOAT in ranked soloQ.
And if they run it, they get destroy because they don’t know how to play tanks.

Do you not understand what forced 2-2-2 is?

I want them to retain the game modes that exist as they are.

However, I think if they could add a very formal 2/2/2 competitive mode with hero bans. You would still be able to get competitive points in the normal and formal mode.

Then both parties would be satisfied.

You’re not alone. I don’t understand why people think removing options is going to result in more creativity. This game would be extremely dumbed-down if 2-2-2 was forced. It seems like it’s mostly just DPS players that don’t want other people to also want to play DPS that are asking for it, though.

This is a pretty popular practice in software development with proven results, though. Sometimes restricting features forces the user to think outside the box and explore other options.

Nah youre not alone as much as I don’t like GOATS meta, I really don’t like the idea of role que

Considering that they somehow think you’ll get a disproportionate amount of tanks and healers despite role queue literally being a system that would sort and allocate those players in a 2-2-2 distribution, I’m gonna say yeah they don’t really get it.

It’s like - everyone right now just gets into one big line, and the first 6 people in line get on the roller coaster. That’s how OW is now, so it could be 6 tanks, 4 healers and 2 dps, or 5 dps and one tank, it can be ANY assortment.

Role-queue asks everyone to sort themselves, as in you say ‘I’d like to play tank’ or ‘I’d like to play tank or dps’ or ‘I don’t care I’d like to play any role’ etc. and then puts you in one or more of three lines; healer, tank and DPS.

When the game starts you will be sorted into one of three roles, guaranteeing that each team will have two tanks, two healers and two dps.

Also, no one is saying that this has to be the ONLY game mode for Overwatch; there’s literally no reason Blizzard couldn’t also include regular QP still as-is in the arcade, or put 222 in the arcade. People just want the option to exist.

It makes sense in a problem-solving scenario. I don’t think building an Overwatch team fits that, though. To me, it’s more like trying to create a new color by removing existing colors rather than creatively combining all of the existing ones.

I think even the people proposing Role Queue see it as a last ditch effort to salvage some sort of meaningful gameplay. They all know OW is meant to be played with team needs in mind and switching to counter. Just the reality is selfish people who don’t understand the game, and are randomly put on your team.

The best solution is to promote 6 stacking. Not disincentivize it.

Yeah I don’t why you get punished for 6 stacking when this is a team game in the first place.

Solo Q is just honestly not the way you’re supposed to play the game.

This is a good view, I think, but I believe that you wouldnt have issues like having 3 tank mains? I mean, by the way you wrote it, one of the tanks was a on DPS and maybe that specific tank main wasnt good at it? Idk
