Unpopular opinion - deleting characters

I think deleting characters can be a good thing, albeit it’s the ultimatum after reworks. Not particularly directed at just Brig, who I know is a victim of this, but let me be clear. I’m open to deleting/retiring characters because some characters have no place in the game whatsoever.
I don’t understand why people have this mentality that because it’s in the game already it means it’s good design or that it’s okay. The way the game is, I’m not particularly sure what the devs envisioned. The design philosophy is so inconsistent and the roster of characters become more and more of a mess with each new addition.

Some people will probably say “oh he’s a Genji main his opinion doesn’t matter.” Well, I would be fine if they delete my favorite heroes in favor of more healthy design.

The game will never be 100% healthy. Even if you delete X character. When a new one is created. And that one causes something like Brig. You delete the next one? And just keep going?

I personally feel the game is designed and envisioned to have a diverse set of heroes and kits. Saying one ‘doesn’t fit’ is subjective. What doesn’t fit or make sense to one person will be the opposite for another.

Instead of deleting heroes or nerfing them into oblivion, I’d rather push the community to learn how to effectively counter a hero compisition.

It’s a team based game, not SingleHeroWatch.

agree.

If you deleted Brig, Torb, Sym, and Bastion - would it really be that bad? none of them belong in overwatch, or in any fps game in general. A ret paladin from Wow, two turret poopers, and a mini gun from an aircraft that they mistakenly turned into a playable hero.

You can take widow with you when you go, as well. Hanzo can stay only if he subjects himself to the nerf bat.

Then you fire who’s in charge of so many bad gameplay designs?

Investing the amount of programming, money, research, art, writing, acting, marketing and localization, into a character just to delete them only because some people on the forums don’t like them and think they’re “bad for the game” (whatever the hell that even means) is absurd.

Removing characters could also cause a bad game play design too. You want McCree removed. If Ashe takes over his spot? What about Reaper? What if someone comes out in the future that makes Reinhardt pointless. Remove him too?

It would kinda be an enormous waste of all the time, effort, and resources the devs put into creating those heroes. As well as a huge “Eff you” to all the players that became invested in and loved the character.

Deleting a hero simply wouldn’t be practical in any sense.

Less hero diversity is always a loss, without exception.

soooooo no builders, no lane defence, and no support defence? And snipers too? tsk tsk.

Sym feels like she’s being pushed in the right and wrong direction. She’s undertuned but really good if you know how to use her. Torb was definitely pushed in the wrong direction and Bastion will never be good in his current design.

I’d honestly say that neither Widow nor Hanzo belong in the game. Snipers in general don’t feel right in a HEAVILY team based shooter. I actually think they added snipers because they’re a staple in FPS games.

There is literally no reason to delete a hero. If something is not working, you can change their kit. If they wanted, they could give Symmetra a hardlight sniper and healing turrets if they felt she would be better in that role. Whatever. Hammond could be a healer. You do not need to scrap the character, just their kit.

That is just your opinion. Some people actually main some of these characters.

Imagine someone says your main doesn’t fit the game and has to be removed.

“It’s not singleherowatch.”

Okay then let’s go ahead and delete characters that’re meant for solo play.

This doesn’t inherently mean they shouldn’t. How many times has someone in the world done something special to them, just to throw it away for someone else’s pleasure? Many times. Some things you do and waste things on is not the correct, sometimes.

Tfw you can’t read. Read the title of this post. Yeah it’s my opinion. But there’re clearly characters that don’t work in a team environment and the massive spectrum of gameplay design doesn’t help. Stop pretending that the game is for everyone and that somehow entitles the game to being badly designed. I could be the one whose main gets deleted and I’ll be fine with that so long as the game is more fun overall.

There isnt a single hero in this game that is designed for ‘solo-play’.

Which is why it’s the ultimatum. Deleting a character is the last resort.

And that is exactly why this delete-heroes attitude is awful and completely biased.

You don’t even see how ridiculous it is to delete heroes who enrich OW roster.

CoD is still there, it might be a far better choice for you with that kind of uncalled gamebalance which completely misses the point of OW.
