Pretty self-explanatory really. you won’t fix comp so let us fix it. give us unlimited avoid so we don’t get put with people that bleed toxicity. Overwatch attracts every aspect of toxic and you let it keep happening. I’ve seen some absolutely amazing players that just get hard stuck in plat and diamond purely because every 2 or 3 games you get some angry kid that throws or afk’s because he can’t play widow. On top of that, the games you actually lose in a fair game brings the win rate down to what most people would agree with is a 55/45 W/L cycle over a season. (less as a solo Q player). having the ability to cut the majority of the toxic people out of your games will give you peace of mind and that helps with play standards.
For whatever excuse I know you will conjure hopefully you’ll actually think about how farfetched and stupid the excuses you will use are and just go ahead of throw the unlimited avoids in and make the community happy. Make it 3 days, even 2, instead of 7. let’s say you play 100 games in 2 days that’s a maximum of 1,100? players you can avoid before starting to get a decay of maximum 11 players every (avg. game length) period.
On that note, I would just like to point out if you do avoid 1,100 players and play 100 games in 2 days, then don’t get a game because you’ve avoided everyone. perhaps you’re the problem and should book an appointment with a shrink, maybe get some sun also.
Feel free to leave a comment and tell me what you think, would love peoples opinions.
Cheers

That would break the queue times

how would that break Q. as a majority. not a minority.

Y’know, they actually had unlimited avoid when the game first came out. There were options for both “Avoid Player” and “Prefer Player” with basically unlimited slots for both.
Unfortunately, the strain on the matchmaking system got to be way too heavy, so they removed it. “Avoid as Teammate” came much later as a stopgap, but from a technical standpoint, even just 3 avoid-as-teammate slots puts a fair bit of strain on the matchmaker.
IMO, only way to really fix the issue is to go full Rainbow Six in terms of strictness with the disciplinary system and watch the undesirables filter themselves out.

If you want to wait 10 minutes for a good game vs 5 minutes for a bad game, that should be your choice.

Okay, 1: You’re gonna be waiting a hell of a lot longer than 10 minutes if you’re adding people frequently, which most people will.
And 2: Putting that kind of strain on the matchmaker doesn’t just increase wait times; it also reduces the pool of people in your rank that can be matched with you.
You’ll end up with a lot more diamonds in gold matches, GM’s in diamond matches, etc. because you’ve basically locked a huge number of potential people in your rank out of the other 5 slots on your team.
The matchmaker has to find someone to match you with; if it gets desperate enough it will gladly team you up with the first 5 solo-queue silvers and bronzes it can find in the queue and put the lot of you against a Masters 6-stack. Why? Because none of them have you on avoid or vice-versa.
So, yeah. It’s your choice if you want to put yourself through all of that in pursuit of better matches. I think it’ll have the exact opposite effect, but hey. You do you.

I mean there’s millions of people who play the game. That might be possible if you play in bronze or GM where the playerbase is extremely small. I guess maybe there is a meta where you avoid everyone in your rank and below to get matched on higher SR teams, but other than that. You would have to have thousands of people on your avoid list for a platinum player to start getting matched with non platinums.

You new(ish) to the game? We use to have this. People would avoid really good players and in return those players had 30+ min queue times.

No, because it’s not just your singular avoid list the matchmaker has to account for. It’s everyone’s. Basically, everyone on your team has to not have each other on avoid in order to be matched together. Same goes for the other team. That’s 12 people with any number of “cannot be matched with” conditions that the matchmaker has to fish through in order to make a match, which is much harder than it sounds.
So there’s a lot more to it than just “don’t match this person with people they’ve avoided.” It’s really not that simple.

nah, bro, I’m not. I remember and it was never a problem. you don’t HAVE to use it. and if that’s what you use it for then aren’t those players meant to be in a higher rank? why are they in plat or diamond? are they hard stuck? you can’t just sit there and say people avoid good people because they are good. if they are good in plat then maybe that’s more of a reason for this system to come into play. that would push the good players away from the players that need more skill and yeah, maybe it would put a plat in a GM game. I was in one the other day as high plat and it was fine, we won. I did my part and I got thanked for it. Rank is not skill based on each grouping anymore. some golds are as good as diamonds. between throwers, afkers, and boosters it’s majority luck. I’ve seen masters play horrible, and it’s not because they don’t deserve to be there. it’s because they’re in a bad state of mind. avoid em for 2 days, then when times up hopefully they’re ok again and chances of playing with them are pretty high if you have before, no?
Thinking about the minority in massive MMO games is the worst thing you can do. Look at what happened to WoW. pushing content for the 1% has destroyed it, it’s just not how you go about making a game. + the avoiding breaks the game less then boosters? and there is plenty of them.
and TBF why avoid someone on the other team thats good? what if they get on your team next game? thats just really bad sportsmanship.
But it was a problem. There was a Widowmake that was really really good and people were avoiding them because people thought they were botting. They contacted Blizzard and Blizz verified they were in fact not botting and was really good. They couldn’t even play comp because their queue times were like an hour long.
Others will use it and abuse. It’s how this community works.

avoiding 1 widow and your Q times are 1 hour? doesn’t make much sense? again, the minority.
I think you might want to employ a strategic retreat on this one, Kro.
Don’t think either of us is liable to get the message across.

I understand what you’re saying mate. no need to be toxic.
That was nowhere near toxic, buckaroo.
Just pointing out that you’re very clearly set on your opinion and there’s not much point trying to convince you otherwise.
Dead horse is beaten, time to move on.

Or just…
don’t play outside of groups. Weeds out the stupid and unfriendly by your own selection. Not the system’s.
Wait times aren’t fringed, and your emotions can be quelled much easier with friends / acquaintances than randoms.
yeah but it’s more like
2 avoids wait 1s longer
3 avoids wait 5s longer
4 avoids wait 1min longer
5 avoids wait 5 mins longer
6 avoids wait 30mins longer
7 avoids wait 2hrs longer

An avoid list isn’t going to magically solve anything. You might block the angry thrower, but they’ve already thrown the game, and the chances of you ever encountering them again are low anyway. In reality people will just use it to block everyone and anyone for any reason they want.
It wasn’t a problem for you. That doesn’t mean it was good.
Yes, and I’m sure you have many years of game development experience to back up this claim. A majority is made up of minorities. Communities are made of smaller communities. You can’t simply ignore them, no developer does that.
I’ve never heard that. In fact, I tend to hear the opposite; that pushing content for casuals and not for more hardcore players has damaged the game. It is not “destroyed”, and whatever state it’s in now, it sure as hell isn’t because they’re catering for “the 1%”.
I don’t feel like any of your statements are based on facts or reason.

You have it completely backwards…
Everyone starts avoiding the widow this widow’s queue times go up to 1 hour.
If you still don’t understand this then there is no hope for you.
Here ya go, read this.
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/06/22/overwatch-avoid-this-player/
“One of the best Widowmaker players in the world complained to us about long queue times,” said Kaplan. “We looked into it and found that hundreds of other players had avoided him (he’s a nice guy – they avoided him because they did not want to play against him, not because of misbehavior).
“The end result was that it took him an extremely long time to find a match. The worst part was, by the time he finally got a match, he had been waiting so long that the system had “opened up” to lower skill players. Now one of the best Widowmaker players was facing off against players at a lower skill level. As a result, we’ve disabled the Avoid system (the UI will go away in an upcoming patch). The system was designed with the best intent. But the results were pretty disastrous.”
