Uninstalled. And not because "game is bad."

I’ve been a day 1 player. Been here since mass rez and DVA killing herself with her own ult. And tonight, I just uninstalled. It’s not because the matches were bad, or the game is bad, nothing like that. I was holding out for OW2 and just really, really feel disappointed with it. Am I the only one here?

I can’t put a finger on it. It just feels like the entire tone of the game has changed. I don’t know if it’s the lack of a 2nd tank, or how vast the dps heroes have been changed, but the game just seems very empty and boring now. The grouping and ult comboes just seem to be gone. It feels more like a game of team death match rather then comboing abilities. OW1 I would play all the time, but this game feels just…empty? I used to always get excited on KOTH maps playing Brig trying to knock people off or the same with Ball. Now it makes no difference because the cards are gone as well to even talk about it post game.

Maybe I burnt myself out on the game, but I think this is it for me for quite awhile, unless something drastically changes in a shake up like Role Queue did for OW1. The game just feels like a shell now. I don’t really have a point with this thread, it’s more of looking for others who feel this way about the game and can maybe articulate it a little better than me. It just feels boring and empty now.

It is likely it, I’ve been though this cycle before.

In around a year, you are likely to say “you know what I’d like, some overwatch” and you know, it will be interesting and good again.

It’s the lack of the second tank, the lack of gameplay synergy, and the lack of character/gameplay rhythm that have really destroyed the replayability, that “one more game” feeling. I have been with the game since 2016 open beta, and until the last day, I was still wanting to chain matches. I was still getting that “one more game” feeling. 5v5 is to blame for all these domino effects. They should have done reworks and number tuning but kept it 6v6. That’s what this game was built around from its core design. Removing the 2nd tank is like taking two puzzle pieces that don’t fit together and forcing them to fit. It doesn’t look right, and it doesn’t feel good.

Also, and I know some people don’t want to believe it because they’ve been groomed by the gaming industry, being able to save up coins and unlock a skin or whatever for free is part of that gameplay loop. A hot take for some reason, but cosmetics are part of the gaming experience. And that experience is marred when it is behind a paywall. Overwatch was no exception.

It’s TDM. Nothing more, nothing less.

It’s a combo of both I think.
I’m really enjoying the game personally and I’m back from a 2 year hiatus.
But I agree it can feel a bit empty, the maps are designed around 6 players.

They have made so many changes that could have benefitted the 6v6 format. Removing shields, removing alot of CC. If those had been added to OW1, IMO we would have a far superior game (OW1’s final state was already superior to this).

Also, people suggested a 7v7 format with 3x DPS. An extra DPS would have put so much pressure on shields that it would have worked as a de facto nerf of shields.
Sure, alot would have had to be changed to accomodate an extra player on each team (bigger maps for sure), but alot had to be changed to accomodate a player less as well. I doubt the work load would have been bigger.

Another solution to OW1’s double shield problem could have been to make stricter tank rules, like only one shield tank (as soon as one picks a shield tank, all other shield tanks will become unavailable). That would even have allowed them to design more shield tanks than were there already. I don’t find that too crazy a rule in any way.

I know we’re only six posts in, but I agree with OP’s post and every response I’ve seen.

I’ve said it so many times, but look at all the time and effort they put into rebalancing the game for 5v5. They could’ve spent half that time just reworking tanks/CC and they would’ve been able to keep 6v6.

I firmly believe 5v5 was introduced (and rushed out) to try and reinvigorate interest in the floundering OWL.

But like OP was saying… yeah I gave this game a try and for about a week was pleasantly surprised and happy to play, but now it just feels like a stripped down version of a formerly superior product.

I just said this in another thread, but I can’t even play this game with friends anymore! And that’s coming from the guy who would always reflexively say “if you’re having issues being bored with OW, or with random team mates, etc… just always group up and play with friends, it makes the game 10x better”. But I cannot honestly say that anymore… I’ll be playing with friends and after only 2-3 matches I get bored and want to sign off.

And it’s frustrating because I can’t put my finger on what it is… there is SOMETHING missing, but I can’t truthfully say what, so people are quick to lump me into that group of “oh you’re just complaining for the sake of complaining, the game is fine”.

I haven’t uninstalled, yet.

I can honestly relate to feeling burned out, it might be because I’ve been playing daily for weeks now or because a lot of my games have gone badly today but I just don’t feel enjoyment in the game at the moment. I feel myself mostly getting frustrated with competitive and how the matchmaking is either a stomp in my favor, of the enemy’s favor.

I also feel like I am not really working towards something, sure, I completed the battlepass and I’m currently on level 126. Back in Overwatch 1 I actually felt like I was working towards a new level border, a lootbox with a cosmetic I didn’t have or currency to buy something. In Overwatch 2 is just feels stale and bland.

We all knew this would happen as soon as they said 5v5. Out of 200 friends that would be on every day… I see about 10 online. My main team or group of 30 is left with 3. Maybe 5 on a weekend. We would play hours Every night for years. 6v6 or Game over. Duh.

I can put an exact finger on it for my case

  • PVE isn’t here yet
  • 5v5 feels worse
  • removal of portrait and level means nothing to work towards after you finish battlepass. No lootboxes or coins to stock up on by grinding

See you next season!

Same! I’m only on week 2 of playing and I’m already bored with it. I think the disappointment with the event did it for me. I always loved the events every year, i’d usually come around to play then even though i never really played the event modes, but I’d come grind casuals for boxes and stuff. It’s just lame now because I still don’t want to play the event mode and there’s nothing I can get from playing regular modes either. (I don’t even think the kiriko skin looks good, I wouldn’t even buy it with my coins if this was still ow1, and they’re charging 25$ for it :grimacing: ) Game was definitely more fun before, very much not the case anymore.

I like the game a lot more than ow1, so it stands to reason that there are people who are going to like it less. Anyone who says they’re the same game aren’t being realistic.

sounds like you’ve just been playing a lot of support.

Another thing they could have done is to just rework some of the dps heroes. Look at sym/mei/junkrat, 3 of which are barely played at high ranks. They could have reworked them into “shield destroyers”, where they can deal massive damage to shields, and mitigate the double shield issue, as well as increasing their pick rates so they wont be sh*t anymore. Shields, were annoying, but they provided uniqueness to the game. Now, its just damage, damage and more damage, its very one-dimensional. The only people who like this are the CSGO/valorant players.

And dont even get me started on the balance issues. Sojourn, despite being entirely broken, remains unnerfed in the upcoming balance patch. They nerfed kiriko’s teleport invuln, which i didnt even know existed. What we complained about for genji is that he has uncontested mobility, and they went to nerf his shurikens, for god knows what reason. I gave the balance team a chance in OW2, since they mentioned they would “communicate with the players more”, but it seems like it was all for naught.

There are plenty of other games out there. I really hope you find something that excites you to no end to play.

The last year and a half of OW1 I stopped playing. Nothing in particular about the game. Just got bored with it. Found a lot of other PvP type games to play that were a lot of fun. Some of them I still play now.

Follow your bliss. When you find that right game, it will just click. Best of luck!

im close behind you.

same feeling, there is nothing about this game that wants me to play one more game, just one more game. about 3-4 games i have to stop playing because the game is boring and everyone just says “well ____ diff ggs” while using the scoreboard to justify that “theyre right” and that the scoreboard “shows so much information.”

one of my biggest issues and it translates to their 5v5 “sequel” game. they have no idea what they are doing with tanks. theyre not tanks… its like a mix between tanks and bruisers and theres more bruisers then tanks. they havent figured that out since the 3/3 goats comp, they didnt figure it out during orisa sig, and theyre not figuring it out now.

i swear theyre either going to delete the tank role or theyre just going to delete dps (they already deleted attack/defense heroes why not just delete the entire role) and make it a tank and support game.

A big problem is the game is too familiar. It’s the same game we’ve already been playing for years. Same maps, modes, heroes. 5v5 doesn’t feel all that different from 6v6.

We went 3 years with no new content and all we get is monetization. It’s all so underwhelming.

I’m having fun. I didn’t really play for the last 3 years, so everything is fresh. Though, I’m not liking the Push mode (too chaotic, too much walking) nor the Battle Pass (it’s just stuff I don’t care about). And the issues with the Support role are a little frustrating. Not enough to ruin the fun for me, but it’ll wear thin eventually. If they fix the Support role and add coin reward to the Battle Pass, then I think that will improve the feel of the game a lot. OW1 did feel more strategic, for want of a better word, but that’s not likely to change.

But, the primary reason I quit was an odd one. I lost interest because there’s no controller queue or aim assist on PC. They did finally add cross-play (which is great), but because they didn’t split queues by input I suspect I’ll quickly hit the same frustrating plateau I was at before. Anyway, I know that’s probably a weird take to most, but it is what it is.
