Just a thought, but so far Overwatch have an undeniably RICH variety of heroes. From tribal terrorists to all sorts of scientists, architect, chemist, soldiers, robots, androids, cyborgs and, heck, we are about to have someone from a colony on MARS!.. so I’m just dumping unexplored ideas that I think would be a nice foundation to build heroes:
A timetraveler from a few years into the future, he won’t tell us what happened, but it was BAD!
Someone who lost both arms all the way to the shoulders and use hard-light prosthetics.
An Omnic with a human brain physicaly implanted in his body.
A Vishkar Tank (since Lifeweaver technicaly counts as a Vishkar Healer, we just need a tank to fill the set)
A Junker Healer to also fill the set.
A hero with actual multiple personalities talking in and out of his head.
A hero that, just for kicks, actively breaks the 4th wall with full awareness he’s in a videogame, much to the other characters’s confusion (and a nice chance for the writers to have fun with themselves and the players)
An Omnic hivemind with invasive abilities and even treating respawn as activating another body.
And of course, heroes from countries not yet featured like Italy, Norway, Scotland, Phillipines…
D.Va scratches at it. She treats the game’s mechanics as game mechanics in a lot of her lines. She also used to have an interaction that ended with, “Are you sure life isn’t a game, Soldier: 76?” A joke? Sure. But her tone always sounded, I don’t know… ominous.
time travelling is a major point in paladins and some of the implications are ridiculous, at least it starts off somewhat normal but time travelling time gods and space worms who were locked in the moon that half the cast inadvertently worship is a bit much
Combine this with Vishkar Tank and have their arms change shape depending on whatever they’re doing, like maybe they turn into shields to block damage, or turn into ribbon cable things to grab and hold enemies. Hardlight in general is way underexplored. You’re telling me the most we see of what is essentially super 3D printing technology is fancy walls and laser pointer turrets??? Symmetra mentions in a Junker Queen interaction she could conjure an axe that’s a kilometer tall! Let’s see more crazy hardlight, damnit!
I had this idea in mind, a Vishkar tank called “Judge” who lost both arms early on, but graduated in law school (the idea he decided to use his head more than his hands to keep up living) with very unwieldy prosthetics but once in Vishkar as a legal advisor, he got those light prosthetics, and soon he joined Vishkar’s enforcers as a “Court Martial” judge.
