Unexpected Application Error

Hello!

Gentle wishes.

To begin, I would like to extend my gratitude to the community, Game Masters, and technical support volunteers and staff for their continued dedication to the OW2 gaming experience.

I would like to raise a query for an [ongoing] issue that I have been experiencing mid-game. When I play, I frequently encounter application shutdowns after between 10 minutes and one hour that cause a “Blizzard Error” window to pop up, which states:

“The application encountered an unexpected error. To help us identify the problem, please describe what you were doing when the error occurred.”

I have filled a form out before, but I reckon that it would be best to post here with hope that someone will assist me. The Report ID for my last encountered error is:

0799D955-3FFD-41C6-B0A5-3DD86AEA80AB
(This was double-checked)

For hardware information, please see below:

CPU: Intel i9 14900KS
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080
Memory: DDR5 32GB (DRAM Frequency: 2992.7 MHz)
BIOS: American Megatrends International, LLC. (12/04/2024), Version F20b (most current)

EDIT — Note: I use Driver Easy to update all my drivers, and they were all current at the time of the error.

I sincerely appreciate all assistance! To prevent bothering fellow players, I have been coping through custom games, which do not incur leaver penalties.

Thank you!

This is a Windows error.

It’s likely happening because of your CPU:

Hi Nicole,

Kind regards.

I want to begin by thanking you for your assistance. Thank you for taking the time to share this useful information!

Indeed, I concur with your postulate — the CPU BIOS settings needed some management; particularly, my memory and fan settings needed adjustment. It turns out that my specific issue was pertinent to the XMP profile, which was not yet specified within the BIOS. After verifying the appropriate XMP profile for my motherboard (mine: the B760M AORUS Elite AX), I adjusted fan settings to ensure that the CPU can adequately perform with the new settings, which enable maximum RAM utilization.

Presumably, this resolved the issue, as:

  1. An internet cross-check verified application closure, suboptimal memory usage and/or overheating as typical outcomes for an insufficient BIOS profile; and,
  2. I have not had a single application shutdown since making these slight changes. :innocent:

I’ll be back on my way!

Thank you!
