Does Sombra takes a good portion of skill? And why?
Which skill exactly?
Overall how hard to master is she?
I believe she relies heavily on team coordination, because they need follow up on hacks and emps
She has a rather high skill cap due to her kit being very reliant on a player’s brain.
to… do what?
Play at all?
Be effective?
Play at “high ELO”?
Both.
She’s the third least played character, she needs to communicate with her team, she needs to have good tracking to secure kills, she needs to have good positioning, know when to hack and when not to bother, when to flank or play on the frontline, when to EMP.
She is damn hard to play man, she also has one of the lowest damage outputs for a DPS character, I’ve put in over 100 hours to play her and I get more value out of playing Reaper or McCree that I don’t even have a third of the playtime with.
Not really. She’s more… 1/3 skill, 2/3 comms.
Shes not the most intensive aim hero but she does require a lot game sense
You know considering GM seems to be the only rank where you get effective and consistent communication, it seems to be communication is quite a skillful ability that Overwatch players have great difficulty in grasping.
Depends who she is fighting, Against Hamster, hahaha she can close her eyes hack and shoot and he’ll blow up.
She requires high degrees of skill to be effective. She’s probably the most tactical DPS there is. Keep those healpacks hacked, plan out a path, keep near the fight to hack tanks and support and pick off low health stragglers, maintain your teleport so you have an out, don’t wander off so you’re providing no immediate value.
All of that and her gun is pretty worthless at ranges farther than close-mid.
So yeah… she requires skill to be effective.
To play at all? Not particularly much more than average. All of her skills are usable with basic aim and hack provides some pretty immediate value just for pushing the button at someone who isn’t shooting at you.
I’d say she has a high skill ceiling, heavy team and communication dependence, and a medium skill floor.
Understanding the importance of comms is a skill. But the act of refusing to use them itself is not a skill. People usually understand, they just refuse to comm, even in GM.
She takes a lot of skill to master.
Idk man I find her kit to be very easy and forgiving, just the difficulty of her is more social and communication with your team, she has low risk and high reward just the effectiveness of that is determine more by communication rather than in game interactions.
So yeah pretty much this.
It’s mostly comms, a Sombra who doesn’t use comms is dead weight and/or throwing in almost all cases.
Other than that, she needs some game-sense, but much less aim than other tracking heroes like Soldier or Tracer.
Other way around IMO.
Sombra being heavily dependent on comms is somewhat of a myth. It’s your job as Sombra to make sure your team is in a position to capitalise on your pressure.
Sombra is genuinely very difficult, in terms of both skill floor and skill cap.
-
Getting hacks off at impactful times on impactful targets requires high awareness and elaborate flanks.
-
Doing meaningful damage with her gun, much less securing kills, requires precise tracking for most of your clip—if you have to reload, it’s too late.
-
You have to farm EMP constantly to have an impact in teamfights, which is hard when your flanks and overall damage aren’t threatening to most heroes.
-
Because of the forgiving nature of your engage (invisibility) and escape (translocator), it’s very easy to waste time and leave your team 5v6 while feeling like you’re playing well.
Plus, Sombra is just weak right now. She arguably has more trouble getting baseline value than any other hero.
She’s got an insanely high skill floor.
To say that Sombra is low skill just because she can hack is like saying Soldier takes no skill because you can pull the trigger. Just because you can hack something doesn’t mean you automatically get value out of it, much like spray and praying doesn’t mean you’re actually doing anything.
For hack to be worth it, you have to find a target (who’s often protected) and position in a way that gives you a 1.5 second window to do what you need to do, which can be really difficult if you’re trying to get a Sigma while he’s in front of a Moira, if he’s next to Reaper, Lucio or anyone with a wide area attack.
Easiest counter to Sombra is to simply position someone behind the main tank. Once that’s done, she’s pretty useless and all she can do is charge EMP.
Someone hanging around behind the team may seem like a waste of time, but it’s what i also do (on Mei) when there’s an enemy Sombra and i need to keep the team from getting hacked.
Tell that to the other five.
And yeah, they did go on comms (this time atleast, that is so rare!), and the change was pretty dramatic.
How often have you guys had to do this?
(Sombra):Group up!
(Sombra):Group up!
(Sombra):Group up!
(Sombra):Stop trickling in so i can EMP!!!
