Unable to name Custom Games

Hello, recently I believe that I have discovered a bug that does interfere with my ability to use the workshop in custom games. Prior to the 2019 anniversary update I was able to change the name of custom games and I was able to see the the title of other custom games. With the current patch, I am unable to 1. Write a description of the game 2. Change the name of my custom game 3. View the name of other custom games and 4. View any description of any custom game. This has been increasingly frustrating because it in essence prohibits me from using the workshop mode indirectly. I cannot create a code and expect people to join a game called Lemur_017’s Game because they will not know what my game even is. This also is happening in reverse.
After reading multiple different forums on what this could possibly be, I have concluded that this is indeed a bug or a change in policy by Blizzard. Listed below are the common responses that I have found and why they are not accurate.

  1. You have parental controls on your account or console. — I do not have parental controls activated. I have never activated any in my blizzard account, and no one else could have because I am the only one who knows my password. On my console, all my parental controls are turned off. Also, if parental controls were enabled, why would I have been able to use these features before hand.
  2. You have been reported and restrictions have been able placed. — while this is a possibility, I have not received any notifications on any behavior and do not believe that I would be reported. Do not take me as being arrogant, ignorant, or someone trying to undo a ban in this next section. I have never been one to purposely treat others badly. I have only left one competitive game(due to a power outage) and have only had on XP reduction because I did not know that leaving quick-play games punishes you after a certain amount. I am not proud of these but I have made sure that I don’t leave quick play games any more. I do not believe that my behavior would warrant for any restriction. If I am mistaken Blizzard, please notify my on what I did wrong so I can fix it.
  3. You messed with your setting— I haven’t messed with my setting in over 3 months.

No onto what I believe actually happened. I realize that this is long, and thank anyone who has read this far. This game has gotten me through some rough times, and with my favorite game being taken down from servers this is the only game I consistently play. I believe that either there is a bug preventing PS4 users from viewing the things above, or that Blizzard recently has changed a social policy preventing minors from viewing titles of other players games. I also believe that this action would have been in good will as there are many groups that have had indecent titles or titles that could introduce minors to unethical people. If I am right with the last possibility, would you please tell me so I could understand this situation, I am currently 17 and will be turning 18 in a month by would like to know the reason why I could not enjoy Overwatch to it’s fullest. Thank you to all who have read and my deepest sympathies to those experiencing the same problem.

Welcome to the club. There have been already multiple posts made about this in the forum. (By me as well) This issue affects not only the workshop/custom games but also the Looking for A Group feature. Posts about this have been made in the forum ever since the Anniversary Update has gone live.

What I have found out so far about this:

  1. I called the PSN support in regard of this issue, because I considered there might have been a policy change on their end. They have told me over phone that there hasn’t been any changes on their part.

  2. I called the tech support of Blizzard as well, they don’t know about any policy changes and in their belief it’s a big and therefor the issue should be brought to the attention of the bug report team.

The common thing seems to be that it affects “child accounts”/“sub accounts” on the PS4. I don’t know if your account is a sub account as well? Definitely always accounts of minors.

We’ve been waiting for any form of response for 3 weeks now and still counting!

Hopefully, with more and more people complaining about the issue, Blizzard will notice. It is really a game breaking bug!

I contacted blizzard and they said my account had a ban from naming custom games. This doesn’t make sense because it started on the update, and I’m pretty sure(correct me if I’m wrong) this ban only lasts 1 week. I also as I said never received a notification about it.
This is how I know it isn’t a ban. My friend has had the same problem and he has never named a custom game while playing Overwatch. He only plays with me, and I am the only one who has named a game.

Blizzard themselves don’t know where the issue comes from. Don’t let them push the blame on you just because it is the easy solution for them. This issue is a known issue, there is an internal report written to the developers about this. Multiple people are experience the exact same thing - and they have not been banned or anything. I have the issue and the customer service directly checked my account record on US and EU servers. Everything is perfectly fine. Everyone experiences the same issue since the Anniversary update. Things don’t add up, it is not something individual players have done. It has to be a bug or issue in their part.

Hey, I thing I discovered something that will at least allow you to view the name of custom games for a split second. If you to the custom game screen, hit the options buttons and the name with show in the description for about 1 second and then disappear.

It actually works pog
Also, for the lfg titles, you can kind of check to see what you’re joining by pressing R2 to search, and then putting in something generic like “chill” or “eu”, and then searching. It will show you the names of groups who have that in their titles, but they will still show up on the list as “username’s group”. Kind of a hassle but if you really want to
