Ultrawide Monitor

Don’t start something out of nothing. It’s just an old meme from xbox live days where gamers dunk on eachother over hardware. We all know Hornet obvs isn’t a racist.
Edit: Additionally, fov sliders are long overdue.

With the way things are now, you see less vertically if you enable 21:9 as you view point (regardless of monitor). What he wants is to see more vertically, so that would be an increase.

I said the term Master Race is racist. Which it objectively is. It’s the basic definition of racism. Don’t defend racist garbage.

Hmm maybe I’m misinterpretting the chain of posts but I thought OP’s reply was being sarcastic how he is “allowed” to choose a higher aspect ratio which decreases the amount he can see.

Even if the origin of a term of phrase has derogatory roots, it doesn’t mean that the usage of it in another context keeps that meaning.

Did you know that a lot of hardware uses the term “master” and “slave” to refer to primary and secondary devices? This isn’t because the people who made the hardware are racists and support slavery, it’s because the the device configurations are analogous to it.

It’s just a joke, about machine parts. Old gamer banter. Don’t take it too seriously. :man_facepalming:

This was talked about LOOONG ago, even as far back as the old forums. Blizzard already responded saying they won’t do it as they want to keep every ones viewable screen the same.

I would make a wild guess that this is a fraction of a percent of players.

Fake news. Higher framerate totally eclipses wider fov in terms of gaining a competitive advantage, yet we don’t see blizz limiting the game to 60fps.

I know you’re looking to propose a solution, but simply “adding a resolution” or aspect ratio isn’t as easy as it sounds.

If some devs want to do it, more power to them. But Tron has an excellent point with population demographics, ultra wide isn’t really overtaking the industry, it’s niche at the very best. Enjoy your monitor, but your purchase should’ve come with some research before hand.

I know console owners who bought 144hz monitors, what’s sounds impressive on paper isn’t also so good in practice.

I did my research. The Alienware Ultrawide AW3420DW is one of the most highly lauded gaming displays currently on the market. I’m not going to buy a crappier monitor because Overwatch doesn’t support it.

Well I applaud you for not caving to one title, however it’s also clearly not on Blizzard’s to do list. Just as you didn’t cave to one title when it came to your purchase, doesn’t mean Blizzard needs to cave to you(r demographic). It really comes down to what you want, and what it encompasses, some encompasses more others encompass less.

You win some, you lose some, I’m sorry you lost this with Overwatch.

That monitor can still be used as a badass 1440p display while playing OW. If widescreen support is more important than the game itself then OW isn’t an option.

Doesn’t basically everyone want to be allowed a higher FoV anyway? Wouldn’t that also make the 21:9 problem more tolerable too?

Relax. Not everything is racist. I know they bombard everyone with it but its not…

yeah it puts black bars on the edges right?

it gives too much information without having to turn

I would rather be able to see more on the sides than an extra few more frames. It would allow me a much more advantage to react to opponents first before they see me than a few more milliseconds of time due to higher frame rate.

The irony here is, ultra wide monitor people say the current black bars at top and bottom means itll give the 16:9 monitors an advantage visually, but at the same time they say it WONT give ultra wide and advantage by being able to see more on the sides.

Go figure.

No, because itll add black bars on a regular monitor in that case to keep the same advantage.

So the choice is, affect the vast majority, or the very few minority?

As I stated before, they invented ultra wide monitors because they wanted to solve the 3 monitor set up for more desktop space. That’s it, that’s all.

If games want to support it, then that’s just a bonus.

besides, it seems ultra wide monitors are on their way out in popularity over 3 monitor or 2 monitor set up streamers usually like more, since now monitors have much thinner borders, are lighter and thinner, and tech has advance such as verical stands, vesa, etc etc.

Plus the fact that curved monitors are usually VA panels as it is the only type that can be curved, which can be the worse for twitch games due to blurriness.

Not everything is racist but the concept of a Master Race IS racist. IT IS THE DEFINITION OF RACISM. You people are delusional.

Try a Google search.
The master race (German: Herrenrasse, also referred to as About this soundHerrenvolk (help·info) “master people”) is a concept in Nzi ideology in which the putative Nordic or Aryn races, predominant among Germans and other northern European peoples, are deemed the highest in racial hierarchy. Members of this alleged master race were referred to as Herrenmenschen (“master humans”).

There are curved IPS panels as well. Can’t speak for any other ones though.
