Ulting when trying to choose perk!

I had a couple of incidents where my ult was ready, it was the middle of a fight, and while fumbling around to try and select my perk in the middle of a team fight I ended up ulting!

Please Blizz, let us lock our choices in either in settings (for heroes that we always pick the same perks) and/or at the start of the game if we want to and then the perk is active automatically when you get enough perk points. All the rush to select it when under pressure is not the ideal way to set this system up.

I dont yet know how, but I think you can lock in your choices before hand so they’re automatically selected upon level up. Good if you only play the same few heroes, possibly not so good if you flex a lot.

I accidentally did this yesterday :skull:

I’ve accidentally chosen a perk while in the begging of a round, because I was reading them and automatically tried shooting a TV.

as a console player I never have this problem (cuz ult is bound to Y and I have to hold left on the D pad for perks)

I mostly wait till after I die or after a firefight to pick a perk

How? The default keys are Alt, LMB, and RMB.

I don’t see how you could possibly hit Q from that far away. Unless you’re on controller or rebound the keys to be that close to your ult button.

This is what I do too.

But Ive been having a similar issue with Echo and Friendly Imaging. I keep Duplicating the enemy! I wish I could lock on only to Friendly teammates instead of everyone.

Yeah I don’t think its a UI issue, at least in MnK.

I have large hands and find it awkward to contort my thumb across to the L-ALT key, hitting the space bar, and tend to lift my other fingers and rotate my hand clockwise to allow my thumb to go across to the left. When I put my fingers back on the keys they may not be centered any more and I’ve hit the edge of the Q key.

It happened at least twice where I set off my ult, perhaps 3 times. But I guess I’ve done it way more often but my ult just wasn’t available when I did most of the times so I didn’t notice.

Just watching Yeatle play with perks. Quote from him

“Selecting perks mid-fight is a little stressful, I won’t lie”

Even GMs struggle to use the perks during the action. Being able to preselect would be very helpful so they are activated immediately that level up.

Have you thought of rebinding to a number?

I rebound my perks to 4, I have big hands, it works much better. I say this as I’m not a very mechanically inclined person when it comes to anything that requires me to press a key that is not WASD, Shift, Q, E, and CTRL, and Space.

Also, preselecting perks wouldn’t really allow people to adapt to certain play styles needed while facing different hero comps. I figured that’s why we have to select them manually.

Perhaps the simplest thing would be to allow binding 2 keys - 1 for perk on left, 1 for perk on right. Then you don’t need to hold down a key while clicking the mouse. These keys would be used without the L-ALT (in other words, when you know what the perks are you don’t need to open and read them).

I originally thought about that but I really don’t think more key bindings is good, especially since console is a thing.

This is specifically a problem for keyboards I would guess. The new bindings can be unbound by default so it won’t affect consoles at all.
