Two changes to Sombra

I have two proposed changes to sombra that will have minimal impact at higher play while also making her less oppressive to those at the affected elo (those in gold rank mostly).

These changes will also preserve her current design but make it more risky and require more mechanical skill.

  1. Her "detected: range should be increased. Currently her risk of detection is only moderate to high on tight quarter sections of maps. She also can practically get on top of her target before she is revealed. Making it easy for her to point blank kill a target before they can react. Especially at average elo’s.

Increasing the range makes her have to either risk more for a point blank attacks or play it safer at further ranges at the cost of effectiveness.

  1. Reduce the projectile size of virus. Make it require a little more aim in order to hit at further ranges. This will encourage lower elo sombra’s to enter detection range for easier shots while rewarding higher elo sombra’s at further ranges.

Please note that this does not exclude the possibility of compensation buffs in other areas. Feel free to suggest any. I just don’t have any specific ones to propose.

Feel free to give feedback.

Honestly, the change to +50 hp fixed virus for me because its went from over 50-60% of a heroes health on a single ability to more like 40-50% requiring far more aim consistency to kill a player in the same amount of time before another player comes back to interrupt Sombra’s window of opprotunity.

To be completely fair, Sombra actually needs help at higher levels of play. She should probably get a compensation buff of some kind.

Tickle Monster comes through once, again. Great suggestion!

Lmao, tell me you suck at OverWatch without telling me you suck a OverWatch

I actually don’t struggle against sombra. This post just recognizes that sombra is oppressive to lower elo’s.

Ideas can come from a place of objectivity. Surprising I know.

lmao sure thing man XD

These are objectively bad changes regardless. The reason she’s oppressive in low elos is because players suck and refuse to learn how to play against Sombra, not because Sombra is an issue.

And because the entire rework dumbed her down significantly. Changing minor things about the rework doesn’t solve how fundamentally broken the rework is.

The main thing from me is taking every hero with 250 hp and burst mobility stronger than Hanzo’s hop and chopping off 25 hp. If they’re underperforming afterward, buff them in other areas such as converting hp to shields or armor or make them more lethal, but leave the total hp at 225. Burst mobility is too strong for heroes to have both it and average hp.

Why? Elaborate.

She is oppressive because her detected range is calibrated beyond that of the average players reaction time.

That’s an issue. It is not a bad thing to calibrate heroes so they aren’t nearly as oppressive. Provided it has minimal effect at higher elo. The changes I propose have minimal effect at higher elo’s while taking steps to calibrate for the average player.

This edit entirely conflicts with your other stance. Is she broken and in need of adjustment or are people just bad?

They can’t separate opinion from fact, that’s how. Saving you some time on this one.

Whats your rank? This is my question. Secondly this game is balanced around pro players.

Does anybody? Being so annoying that you would prefer to step on a cactus does not mean you struggle against her. I will flatten the Chupacabra because she doesn’t frighten me!

:muscle::triumph:

Sombra players are always like that. They do not want buffs, they do not want nerfs. They want cheesy kills. And that’s fine. It can be her niche, or something…

:muscle::face_with_monocle:

Just curious, what would you define as a cheesy kill? You’re not trying to make the claim that Sombra is the only one with cheese, right?

Secondly, what makes her “cheese” any more annoying than all the rest? I would argue there are far more annoying characters to deal with than a Sombra.

Relatively effortless.

Heaven’s no! This game might as well have been developed in Wisconsin, cuh.

She can more or less dictate the engagement and then disable you before landing the giant projectile. Not much you can do about it without a cleanse.

And I definitely would not agree, even slightly.

  1. She isn’t the only one capable of dictating an engagement, lol.
  2. The hack literally lasts for a single second. There are many ways to deal with that - like moving, for example.

Fair enough, opinions and such.

She does it the most easily. She has permanent invisibility and some of the best mobility in the game.

Only because Sombra players struggle with aiming. But yes, I will give you that. The problem for me is someone ELSE does something while you are hacked. And EMP is a free hack.

So the problem is her teammates helping her in a team shooter? Got it. Never mind all the support players in lower elo that get dived on by everything under the sun, the moment a Sombra gets help off a 1 second hack it’s game over, man!

If anything, she needs buffed, not nerfed. You have to either have a well-coordinated team or mad skills to get the same value out of a sombra as you would one of the other more reliable DPS picks. But I wouldn’t advocate buffing the hero though, unless it was in a way that only made her better in the highest ranks as she already is a bit of a low elo gate keeper.

I personally think it’s because the average player (and below) has a problem with understanding object permanence. The situation is completely different when you play a team that is fully aware of Sombra even if they can’t see her. That is my opinion though.

A lot can happen in one second if they are all looking at you. And no other hero, support or otherwise, enables that sort of tom foolery.

Hard disagree, lmao. In one second if everyone is looking at any hero in the game - it’s deleted.

  1. Winston diving any support with a Genji
  2. Winston diving any support with a tracer
  3. Winston diving any support with a reaper
  4. Winston diving any support with a venture
  5. Winston diving any support with an echo
  6. Hamster diving any support with a genji
  7. Hamster diving any support with a tracer
  8. Doomfist diving any support with a genji
  9. Doomfist diving any support with a tracer
  10. Dva diving any support with a genji
  11. Dva diving any support with a tracer

I could go on, but at this point its getting ridiculous. There are zero circumstances where any of these combinations of heroes getting 1-2 seconds on any support or dps unchallenged is going to meet a different fate as replacing any one of these dps heroes with Sombra…
