I have a question about Twitch Drops. Most of the time, I have noticed that when I have the live stream window open as a tab in the background on my Chrome browser, I do not receive progression towards the Twitch reward. Instead, I should have the tab open in front of me (on my second monitor) and actively “watching” the stream in order to make progress.
Can Twitch detect if I have the stream open and playing in the background or minimized?
I’m pretty sure I get progress regardless of whether it’s the active tab or not in my browser. However, I use Firefox, so I can’t speak as to whether there’s some sort of Chrome specific hocus-pocus at play.
To be on the safe side I have it as my active tab when I switch to playing a game, and I get progress then, too.
I don’t have concurrent Twitch streams open to be on the safe side.
Hello Mew,
Twitch does not detect if you have the stream open or not. However Chrome and other webbrowsers do indeed stop tabs from running if you have them minimized for some time. The solution for this is to either be on the tab all the time or download an webbrowser extention that reloads the page.
Here’s an extention for Chrome that both reloads the page and also claims the Twitch drops automatically
