Twitch cheers/bits are such a con

So I get an email from Overwatch league telling me all about how I can unlock exclusive loot by “cheering” for teams and I think “that’s neat”

Then I get on twitch and discover that to “cheer” you have to spend real $$$ on “bits” and you can only use “cheers” that cost 100 bits or more, meaning I have to pay about $2.50 everytime I want to “cheer” a team.

ARE YOU SERIOUS WITH THIS??? Not everyone is made of money that they can just throw it away like that. When you go to a sporting event they don’t charge you to cheer for you team.

And what’s even the point of the the 1 bit cheer if you going to turn around and say “oh no, you can only use the 100 bit ones” ???
Super shady behavior designed purely to con people out of more and more money.

Very disappointed by all this.

what do you get or has it been announced. doesn’t really seem worth it

The crazy thing is I bought bits to cheer with and can’t even use them on Twitch console. Smh

Well I got nothing for the single cheer I was able to do (because haha now you bought the bits you can’t actually do the 1 bit cheer sucker!)

Apparently I was supposed to unlock an emote for twitch but I’ve received nothing and while its taken my money and my bits, it says I have made 0 progress on the “unlocks” screen.

Also when 40,000,000 cheers have been made by the community, you get a Tracer OWL skin.

Just doing the math on the Tracer skin, the community needs to drop about $800,000 dollars on these cheers to get the unlock. Absolutely disgusting!

Yes this is part of the agreement with Twitch and why Twitch paid Blizzard an enormous sum of $$ for OWL streaming rights.

Did you expect Twitch not make that money back?

No one is forcing anyone to ‘cheer’ its just an extra thing people can do to support twitch and blizzard and get few rewards while doing so. Its all optional. Companies making money it not distrusting or evil like everyone seems to think.

Same thing happened to me

Yes you’re right $800,000 is a reasonable price for a single skin…

Not to mention how little info is given and how its all works and seems to be designed to trick people who aren’t familiar with how twitch works.

I cheered 1000 Bits roughly 40 minutes ago and my progress is still at 0, I’ve only gotten the team emote. This is so dumb.

Agreed. It’s a stupidly transparent con. Sure, I’ll watch OWL for the league points or whatever, but dropping money on bits to cheer so you can MAYBE get something? Ridiculous.

Even the free tokens doesn’t seem to be working, I’ve watched all but one game today and only got 1 token, instead of the 1 token per game watched as described in the email I received.

Edit: just as I posted that I got 1 more “yay” I guess…

Makes me glad I don’t like OWL. Would hate to get scammed for some lazy emotes or a gray skin

It isn’t a con, though I agree it can be confusing for people who are new to twitch or new to engaging with streams. I mean, I thought by emotes they meant in-game emotes. But that’s allright, because your progress leads to a skin later.

As for bits; I think people just misunderstand them. They’re like a donation and way to show support to streams on twitch. Whether you even get benefits for it is up to the streamer. Most channels don’t give out any rewards for sending bits, I’v recieved bits and I don’t have any sort of rewards besides giving the donor a “thanks!” in the chat. So in the OWL’s case… those are some pretty amazing rewards considering they can lead to in-game items.

And again, it is all optional, but the donations support the league and it’s players.

It takes time for them to show up. You won’t get them instantly.

Also there is quite a bit of info given people just don’t bother looking there’s a whole bunch on info on a twitch page linked on the bits button.

It’s taking a heck of a long time for a bunch of people then. Over an hour an still nothing new.

Except no one is forcing anyone to cheer bits, cheer or don’t cheer. I don’t think Blizzard cares if there are people that do not cheer, but I do like that people have the option to support the Overwatch League and Twitch by using bits.

I spent 1,000 bits at the first half of Valiants/Dynasty and just recently (as in minutes ago) got my 10th hero emote.

They roll out one at a time and quite slowly.

You’re not forced to pay for bits. you can click on “Watch Ads” and get some bits just by spending a few minutes by watching a few ads. Its not alot and very frequently you’ll get just five per ad but its still a way to get “free” bits.

Where do you see your progress???
