Trying to learn please help me, Why are you a reaper main?

This is not a hatred thread its purely trying to understand what makes a player a Reaper main and what makes you continue to play him when the odds are against him?

I play him mainly because for one , hes very EASY to play. Movements ult and all of that are very simple to do. Yet the main thing for me is his dark image. No offense but I do feel OW2 is a bit too ‘cartoony’ with the reactions of the characters, how they act concerning certain things happening.

I mean its fighting one minute , life and death and then all smiles like you are a kid in a candy store with themes of riding off into the sunset and ‘feel good’ moments among Rein and Winston and all this 'GASP" oh my friend love to see you stuff.

Reaper is what drew me to the game because I just like the dark image and overall he’s the only character that i can take seriously. He is not here to play, he’s here to get it done and the fact that he’s got the GUTS to face all these weapons with only 8 bullets at a time???

Respect.

In any case, hes a pure bad guy and he fact that he’s NOT in more storylines or any of the mission modes on the game is just sad. As I had said before they really need to do a game mode where its all about him for once. A Reaper Deathmatch. I would love to see a DM where everybody can play reaper at the same time and have a free for all. I know that is possible in games you make but I’d like to see it in a mode on the game and get credit for it.

In any case…thats just me. I truly hope they do listen to the suggestions we have given for Reaper’s re work because he needs it. He needs more ammo and a longer wraith time and to be honest more power. He needs his original power back. He’s too slow running or walking and he needs better range on avoiding as far as dodging to the side and moving and ducking enemy fire.

I hope they do the right thing. So what about you? Reaper main? Why?

I play him because once upon a time I was an Ashe main, then they nerfed her 5 times in a row and gigabuffed Hog/Zarya, so every match had Hog/Zarya, and Ashe was then utterly impossible to play.
So I thought “well, if I can’t play Ashe, who would be good against Hog?”
Since I was a one-trick, this meant I had an existential crisis, and after playing a ton of Mystery Heroes to familiarise myself a bit more with different heroes, I realised that Reaper was just so much more viable in Hog meta, and got really good at him.

I tend to care more about mechanics than aesthetics.
I became an Ashe main, not because I was drawn to the aesthetics of the hero, but because I was a disaffected Destiny player who lost all interest in the franchise when Destiny 2 came out and was abysmal.
I mained Hunter with a scout rifle, so Ashe was the intuitive choice.

Now, despite being a Reaper main still, I play a lot of Mystery Heroes, and am comfortable and enjoy most of the heroes.

I play basically all tanks except Doom, Winston, Rein, and Ball, but when I get those in MH I can usually manage well enough.
I am competent at virtually all DPS, except somewhat less so for Genji and Widow.
I am competent at all supports, but main Zen and Bap.

So I am a Reaper main when playing DPS, but mostly in the sense that Reaper is now my home position.
Frequently I’ll start a match playing someone I’m less skilled at, like Widow, and then after I dink their Widow once, then that Widow swaps to Sombra, so I say “that was a mistake, now I have to play someone I’m actually competent at. I just wanted to practice so I can go from being a shidow to being a midow at least”, swap to Reaper, then crush their hopes and dreams.

(Alternatively, I might get my butt handed to me by a genuinely competent Widow, and I’ll let it ride for a few life cycles then Swap, admitting that they are simply a better Widow than I am)

I played a bit of reaper and I have the impression that he needs some buffs or even a rework, I have the impression that he is not that strong, I have the impression that he is hard to play, in 1 he was great to play but in 2 I feel that he is weak and needs some reinforcements or a rework

Hope that he will get better. Though, in my case, I guess its more of a delusion now, 12 seasons in with no decent changes.

Real. Although I find him falling into the cartoonish category more often now than he was before. Certain things just don’t make sense coming from a person who’s experienced what he has. They’ve turned him into a caricature of his former self like many of the characters in this sequel.

Oh, you must be a new player who never got to experience the best PvE event game mode. Archives was one of the best things they ever released, but they stopped releasing it for OW2. They even gave him voice-lines without the mask filter.

Honestly, if they gut his movement speed on Wraith and up’d it’s duration so it wouldn’t be affected by hinders, I would gladly take that over never having any way to defend myself.

Even just a way to safely engage like smoke grenades would be nice. But no, they aren’t going to give us anything intelligent like that.

He used to be intimidating. He used to be a real threat that people would be forced to run from. He could challenge the biggest bads and go toe to toe with them.

Now he’s just a pathetic shadow of his former self. Not even the Supports fear him.

sneakin around
if they made his shadowstep reload id be so happy tbh

I think the black watch reyes skin and the soldier 24 skin use voice lines without the filter since it’s “pre reapening”

Nope. I realized this after I spent 500 coins on the blackwatch skin, unfortunately. It was only available in the PvE mission.

It is the best and only reason to play Reaper.
