2-2-2, 3-2-1, 3-2-2, won’t matter since the root problem of Overwatch hasn’t been solved: Lack of teamwork. Solo queuing comes down to the luck of the draw of how well your hastily put-together team can get on the same page and execute the same game plan. 2-2-2 didn’t solve this. Neither will 3-2-1.
What could have been far better IMO is the introduction of guild systems that
Allow for any hero comp in matches, even 6 DPS
Permit a much wider spread of SR per guild
Have separate queues for guilds than for solo players
So much of the toxicity I’ve seen comes down to teammates not being on the same page. One player wants to dive, another wants to bunker, a third wants pirate ship, and then they all lose because they can’t agree to a common strategy. A lot of development would have to go into making guilds, but I feel that the potential is far greater here for decent games than trying to force the optimal ratio of DPS-supports-tanks.
The only thing that’ll fix Overwatch is forced communication - which Blizzard will not do because players don’t want that.
The team with better teamwork will almost always win.
You could always have 2-2-2 if you found a group of like-minded individuals to play with. So role queue didn’t really accomplish anything but limiting the ability to switch on the fly - which hurt the game, IMO.
However, I think 2-3-2 will be a lot better than 1-3-2 or 2-2-2.
