Tracers Blink on PTR

For those curious about that high ledge on Anubis, here ya go on live:

Step 1: Get here (where the crosshair is pointing) via regular jumping onto the boxes then onto the ledge.

Step 2: This is the hardest step, but double Blink to hit the ledge where the ulti icon is covering in the screenshot. Have to be standing at just the right angle and jump pre-Blink to land right.

Step 3: One quick Blink over to this next ledge.

Step 4: Triple Blink to the platform just below the crosshair.

Step 5: Use a normal jump to get the rest of the way up.

Step 6: Accidentally step on the Lego Widow left for you up there.

And that’s How2Tracer on Anubis.

From having played around with it meself, i see no issue personally.

(In fact i personally think Tracer should have vertical mobility to an extent, but i digress.)

For those unaware, it only seems to take effect with ledges that are a few meters out of reach, the Tracer can’t scale walls like a Genji or jump up them.

if you really want to annoy widow players, you can also come at her from behind:

 they never expect it (that’s on live btw)

Of all the years I’ve played tracer I don’t think I’ve ever encountered more than a few other players who parkour around maps… To be honest, if this buff (QOL, whatever) went live, I still wouldn’t expect that many people to

It would be fantastic for the few of us who do spend time learning what can and can’t be done. I doubt it would turn the average person into an unstoppable menace considering they’re already mostly unaware of how to scale the map :eyes:

Hahaha, that’s awesome!

I love to Blink to places Widows don’t think I can get to. It’s so funny when they panic SMG mode. XD

You know, that’s a good point. Like when Lucio’s wall ride got buffed, it didn’t suddenly make an army of Reddit Lucios appear out of nothing. XD I guess the pros will make use of it, but the ones who can’t currently do that stuff anyway probably still won’t bother doing it, so … yeah, the change actually impacts very little when you think of it that way.

I don’t know if this is intentional. But it’s pretty big. With the new blink change, not only it’s a QOL change but it allows to do more jumps with her blinks. For two days, I was messing with her blinks on PTR and I was able to get to places that I couldn’t before or using less blinks. Her blinks acts like a second jump since it takes to an account of your height at the start of the blink.

Exactly. Wallriding received huge buffs whether it be how easy it was to do, or how fast you could go. Yet it didn’t really turn the average lucio into a madman because the play itself is still extremely risky. It made good lucios way better and it only very marginally made bad lucios better.

I’m hoping that they’re aware of the implications and are at least willing to see how it changes things. My worry is that they’re not aware, and are going to look at this and think “What the :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:? Patch that out FAST!” because I admit, it does look pretty unbelievable. It’s so unbelievable that I would find it amazing if they didn’t accidentally figure it out. Then again, moira fading out of earthshatters after being stunned…

There is also another potential tweak they could do that would at least be a compromise. They changed something about blink that wasn’t actually listed in the patchnotes. On live, if you jump and blink with no cooldowns enabled you will slowly descend. Yet on the PTR, you fly off into the sky. Why? Because they altered how it positions you after a blink - you’re pushed upwards now regardless of if you’re going over something. In the patchnotes they don’t say that. The patchnotes only reference a sort of internal ‘height check’ that happens when trying to scale something. It doesn’t say you literally move upwards with every blink.

If they remove the change to her final position yet keep the new height check logic, there might still be a lot of new potential blink jumps unlocked without some of the more… absurd ones being included.

I mean, people screamed bloody murder on her primary range buff saying she’d destroy the game – and all it did was help her be a little bit more viable. Going to hold judgement on this one for sure.

I honestly felt that one would be a big deal if dive came back and still kinda do. But it’s not as strong as it felt at first in most circumstances. But these buffs are a-okay with me. This is the kind of method of buffing I love. Make a hero more consistent or better at the things they should be strong at rather than decreasing or eliminating counterplay/risk.

and WHY shouldnt she be able to do that? Explain.

You can’t just whine and say “she op wahhh” and not explain.

Mobility creep must continue. Slash all cooldowns, make everyone hop over rooftops.

From perspective of a high ground hero main (baptiste) that’s already not in a good spot, having another thing that just ignores that is a little annoying.

My main problem with this is that once people get a handle on this, it has the potential effectively kill Genji at high ranks more than he already is. Her horizontal mobility is already the best in the game barring Echo, but with this, she basically has a jump tech that’s his swift strike, double jump, and wall climb all in one. Even if Genji got buffs to his damage and survivability, why bring him at all when you can access high ground and disengage from it with better ease than him?

Yeah, Tracer could do this before, but it also took skill and practice to do it. All this looks like it needs to master is to find a box and jump.

I haven’t seen Tracer in the same quantities that Mei/McCree/Widow are being played post-buff, have you? Can you draw a conclusion that the buff was “merely a viability change” from a vastly smaller sample set than the heyday of dive meta?

Also, Tracer did have vertical mobility (like Genji’s dash)… In the beta builds. Which they removed. Can you (the reader) guess why?

Tracer should be able to wall climb, like genji. Blink climb is the future of overwatch.

Uhhh… perhaps you should read my response a little more carefully. It was basically saying the “end of days” Tracer buff of having more range really didn’t do a ton except make her a little better.

We’ve been always able to do it.

I read the patch notes and it just seems like a QOL change to me.
