Im looking to expand my character pool to include possibly only half tricking genji and half tricking tracer…
for those of you who play tracer…what are your mechanical tips/any combos i should be aware of?
heres 2 replay codes 1 win 1 loss.

i am not the best at stickies, which is something i know i need to work on. i find the hardest thing is when im up close fighting someone, my tracking gets off like way off, so i am aware of certain things, but if you notice anything else, please let me know.
thanks.
I can watch ur gameplay later on today if ur up for it. Can I just get ur rank before I watch this + the game youd like me to watch

No idea what your SR is but I play a lot of Tracer and the most important thing I learned is to SLOW DOWN.
You mention your tracking up close, if you stop, think and plan your engagements then one clips become a lot easier. I always tried to play like OWL Tracer and ended up not actually having much value
If you can camp out, pick off a squishy, the fight is already over! And most importantly, you’re still alive.

my tracer is just in gold so barely gold/high silver. i posted 2 replay codes you can choose which one you would like to watch. i think the first code is a loss.

Tracer doesn’t have many “combos” that are really effective, the main ones are:
- Blink → melee → recall cancel
- Q → blink → instant stick
- Spam alternate between crouch walking and normal walking to crouch-walk at a brisk pace, without making noise
but most people already know those
A lot of the time it’s not actually someone’s mechanics that cause them to miss shots but it’s their approach to each fight. Like, it’s not your cars tires that are defective, you just keep driving over potholes. Ya know?
Some examples of what I mean:
- Blinking behind someone who is A/D strafing doesn’t make your shots easier. They’re still strafing perpendicular to you. It just makes you both have to 180. If you have low sens, you’re probably making it worse for yourself by doing it. If you want easier shots, blink to someone’s left or right, because you have a split moment where their strafing has no effect on you.
- Abuse the midrange spread. The closer you are, the stronger the parallax effect, the harder the shots to land. You can easily 2 clip most dps with proper spacing. Having good spacing for the fight you’re taking helps you land more shots.
- 1 clips aren’t as common as you think, even for grandmasters. What does become more common as people rank up, is the quality of the shots they’re going for. e.g not trying to 1clip the lucio who’s a/d spamming on speed boost, and instead trying to 1clip the scoped in ana who’s unaware of you.
- Spam crouch-walk to get closer to an unaware target before you shoot them. Don’t blink on them, unless you know you’re good enough to 1 clip them (in general, widow and scoped in ana’s are safe to blink on if you have good blink spacing and plant your crosshair on their head). Most of the time, you can walk right up behind someone who doesn’t know. You can even AFK there and wait for them to stand still. I know, I do it a lot.

- Don’t commit to every fight that you start, because not every fight is supposed to result in a kill (unless you’re hard smurfing). For ex, if ana still has sleep dart and nade, then shoot her a bit. Make her waste both abilities, then leave if everyone starts looking at you. Just get a healthpack or something then come back. Alternating like that between being noncommital for the sake of wasting CDs → being extremely aggressive to people with no CDs results in more uptime and you set yourself up for really easy follow-up fights (meaning, more kills, more backlines saying “WE NEED TO KILL THIS TRACER”)
Some things about sticky:
- When throwing sticky, don’t throw it at their torso, throw it at their legs. Many characters have hitboxes that look like triangles that get wider near the ground. Another benefit is that your bomb lands closer to target, and it lands faster, so it explodes sooner. Less time to react. Either way, you will be getting more sticky kills despite changing almost nothing about your mechanics.
- Blink to someone’s side or rear → turn → sticky is very difficult and inconsistent, even with a lot of practice.
- Q → Blink → sticky is consistent against stationary characters with a lot of practice, but still very dicey against people who are moving.
I will probably watch the vods later tonight or some other day this week (assuming they don’t wipe, but lets be real they don’t patch this game so why would they).
- Master blink 180 melee combo
- Master blink stick combo
- Get used to your sens and comfortable with tracking. Use an aim trainer to isolate this skill. Remember that higher sens will always give you are higher skill ceiling as Tracer, but is harder to use.
- Practice ad strafe and crouch spam to stay alive
- Learn silly movement stuff like forward +backward blink to fakeout opponent
That’s just a few mechanical things.
