I’d prefer only to hear from higher rank players on this.
For reference I’m currently a 3522sr Tracer main. About 300 hours.
I usually average around 45% accuracy. But recently as a kinda for the lulz test, some friends and I decided to play without our UIs (alt z).
Turns out I have godmode tracking without any UI (>50% accuracy) I’m pretty sure this is because I can only focus on the enemy and their movement. Whereas if I have my reticle up, I’m focusing on the reticle more. I’ve taken it as a learning experience and now I’m starting to do some experimentation because I want that new tracking but I also want to use a reticle for good target aquisition.
So I’ve been messing around with smaller dot Reticles or 50% opacity Reticles etc etc. The latter seemed to get me near the same affects for a bit but it seemed less coordinated and a bit more all over the place in replays.
So I’m wondering some of your opinions. Should I just keep playing with no UI to train myself in what to pay attention to? Or are there any reticle suggestions you have? Or has anyone had a similar experience and what did you do?
You don’t have to read this then, but I do think I can offer a unique perspective due to my vision disability. See, I can’t focus on a reticle AND my target either. So I had a similar problem to you, believe it or not, and also have about the same accuracy without a reticle.
So again, feel free to take this with a grain of salt 'cause I’m a silver/gold scrub, but … What I found easiest was this:
I can go in-game and get the specific numbers if you want. But basically this one allows me to “see through” it, sort of, but still have a flashy and easy-to-find center when I get disoriented.
Again, disregard if ya want, but thought I’d offer anyway. Either way, good luck finding what you’re looking for!
I don’t see how this post has anything to do with the cheating accusations. The community thinks I cheated and I paid my price.
I’m just looking for advice from players around my rank.
I’m a former GM support player but I got to high masters as DPS. For Tracer, I’ve always stuck with the default green reticle. I think it’s the most useful as it accurately depicts the spread.
So you use the bloom? I think my tracking was best with that and a dot of all Reticles before I went without UI. I didn’t feel like it helped me practice keeping my reticle on the center point though bc it let me feel like her aim was a bit forgivable. I might go back to that and a 50% opacity dot though. Or just dot and bloom at 50% opacity.
Tracer was my first ever main and here’s what I’ve got to tell you.
I stick to the exact same crosshair but change up the color when I get used to it. I notice every time shortly after I change the color I perform much better.
Playing without UI is definietely good practice and I’ve heard other people suggest doing it to. I normally only try that in practice range and I find it useful.
Accuracy stats on most heroes except for maybe widow don’t mean that much. Your feeling on whether or not you had good aim ina game is more relevant than what the accuracy stats show.
The only reliable way to carry as tracer is to first flank and make space. second get important one clips (like on ana in a fight where they want to nanoblade.) You can bot out and feel like you’re contributing by just staying with your team and shooting tanks that are getting healed, farm acc stats and in reality not do anything.
It doesn’t matter if you finish the game with 32% acc if you felt like you had good aim that game and one clipped their zen and ashe many times, you know what I mean?
Here’s my final advice. Good aim is good but unfortunately in masters+ you can only carry so much on tracer even with amazing aim and the perfect godlike crosshair and gaming chair (I’m joking btw)
Be willing to switch if countered (normally torb + brig does it for me)
Pick a hero that’s good against those certain situations and learn them. My go to hero was mei because I don’t like widow as much, mei has self sustain like tracer so you don’t rely on bot teammates and you have a projectile weapon with no fall off that FEELS like hitscan.
im a rein/ana main but im around ur level on tracer. (quit tank and play dps alot)
i just use dot reticle and use some opacity. (if u want use black and ur eyes tend to focus a bit. like a smuge or dead pixel on ur screen. this might be good if u wanna have no crosshair but still kinda have one since its hard to see the black reticle) no bloom also.
only problem is when you play soldier, it feels like real rng sometimes. cuz his spread is bad/no bloom. feels like you should hit shoots but end up getting nothing. (feels like cod. 3 bullets to kill a guy but yet takes half a clip to actually kill him)
if i was you, i would still play with a ui. just opacity to not see anything if u wish for no reticle. i know wraxu (that one hanzo main) didnt have one for a while (idk if he still plays tho)
Dude ty I appreciate all the advice. I’ll definitely try changing the color from time to time. I hadn’t thought of that. I plan on more no UI practice too.
I know the don’t matter but I look at them like a trophy or the opposite sometimes.
Soldier is actually usually my backup. Basically the same hero.
I play him too but the problem is he gets countered by a lot of the same things Tracer does (Brig POGGERS!!)
I recommend picking up ashe tbh. She compliments tracer really really well and isn’t boring af like widow
But that’s good to know. Don’t try to brute force your way with tracer sometimes it just doesn’t work. I haven’t figured it out either like maybe it’s because they have really good healers? maybe my tanks aren’t creating enough space so I have to go in alone? Idk why but sometimes she’s just impossible
