Tracer 1v1 tips

Does anybody have any tips for tracer 1v1s? I can comfortably play tracer vs every hero in the game(yes even brig) but when it comes to another tracer I lose every time. Any tips for a tracer 1v1?

It’s about mechanics and cooldown management. Chase them down when you hear they don’t have recall, shoot them when they’re shooting someone else, go back to your team if you can’t out-mechanic them.

tracer’s got tiny health, don’t forget, and her recall only restores what’s been lost in the past three seconds.

now, tracer does pretty bad poke damage in-game, but in a 1v1 situation that poke matters; it’ll give you a bigger advantage than you think once the fighting gets closer, and it’s not like tracer’ll recall just to get that 15ish HP back.

a good thing to keep in mind in 1v1s is to be extra confusing with your blinks. blink behind them, around them, out of their los, whatever you need for them to lose track of you.

also, never blink straight towards a tracer as tracer (nor should you towards any hero), because since you’re the same height headshots will be a lot easier for the opposer to land—not for you, since you’ll be a tad more disoriented by your blink than the other tracer.

generally, whoever uses recall first in the fight has the disadvantage. stall out using your recall as long as you can and squeeze out enough damage onto your opponent tracer in that timeframe as you can. use your recall after the other tracer has, unless you’re absolutely forced to. that way once you do use your recall and the other’s is hopefully still on cooldown, they’ll have more HP chipped away than you, and you take the advantage.

also, really try to land those crits. headshots are surprisingly easy to land on tracer imo, and that double damage onto a teeny health pool counts for a lot.

keep your reflexes really sharp too. tracer knows where she’s blinked a lot more than you do. tracking her position and her cooldowns are key.

Tracer 1v1 is my least favorite matchup. But if you are getting outplayed by the tracer, I would just sit behind your backline and wait for their Tracer to attack your back line. Then you can pounce on them and it is a 2v1 fight, since your support is helping you. That should give you the edge.

But I find the winner of the Tracer/Tracer duel is usually the one that has the better support from their team. Because usually it turns into “whichever tracer gets damaged first runs back to their team for healing”. So if enemy Tracer has the better team who is in position to help them, I just switch to a Tracer counter like Sombra, instead of trying to duel them.

I always try to blink when they are starting to hit me.
And i always reload during this blink if possible.

The highest I’ve played Tracer was mid Diamond so take this with a grain of salt - but Tracer vs. Tracer is almost always the least valuable engagement to to take. I can usually get more value out of going after another target.

That said, if you have to take the engagement, then try to control a health pack and try not to use recall before the other Tracer. All damage counts with such a low health pool.

Yeah, whoever recalls first will usually lose. Also, an engagement where you’ve taken damage first is usually a lost one, as you’ll either be forced into that first recall unless you play into a healthpack, or you’ll stick around too long for that damage to be recalled and won’t have the health pool to win.

Blink at the opposite of where she blink, it creates a space that will force both of you to face each other if she blink closer then blink away till she is forced to chase you down while annoying her then when she turned away hunt her from behind.

Tracer vs tracer is the most fast pace dual in the game, because the idea is to outpace the ennemy, you need to be fast an precise, while getting the ennemy to lose track of you. It is very skill / experience dependant. grind is mandatory. going deathmatch is usually a good idea to train.

Good general tips are

  • to play for healthpack. If one is nearby you should take it first, in the mix of blinks
  • desorient them, aim, then shoot
  • try to stay calm and aim before fireing (every bullets counts generally but especially on a T.)
  • go for half clips before you blink melee them. Full clip is too long. then finish your clip do not reaload it cost to much time.
  • If you have to recall first you should probably run away
  • if you have to go all in remember that recall reloads your guns.

the rule of thumb is usually that the tracer who uses recall first loses the 1v1, but this is heavily influenced by your aim and blink management

If you cant kill me, you are simply too slow!

Don’t duel an enemy tracer, its not you job.
Your job is to flank and harass the enemy back line.
Sure if you encounter the enemy tracer while he was shooting something else, try to one clip him. If not don’t chase him and ignore him. You will be wasting lots of damage/kills chasing around a tracer. While the enemy healers can heal without getting pressure on them and snipers can shoot uncontested. And probably waste all your cool downs doing this. With a bit of bad luck you will burn all your cool downs just to kill him and then get easily killed because you don’t have any mobility left.
