Toxicity more prevalent in QP

I sometimes try heroes I am new to like Sojurn and Kiri in QP. I may get an itch and be like I’ll finally be good at x hero today and learn them!

I have so much healthier chats in ranked than unranked which has raised my eyebrows a little. In QP people are insulting each other or the other team in almost every game.

In ranked people are communicating, laughing, helping each other. Asking for a counter pick and getting it or a polite but firm no. They congratulate each other when we win. Say “we tried” when we lose and some are like “good luck on your next games” despite knowing we will probably never see each other again yet they are still good to each other.

When people say OW is toxic do they mostly play unranked?? It seems the super unhappy and hateful play unranked.

In ranked people may give you tough love if you are letting the team down by not playing your position well - but that’s fair. That isn’t toxic. There’s a difference between accountability and cruel meanness.

It’s where they go knowing that when the MM pairs them up with a decent team and they end doing fairly well, they tend to act as though they’re top 500 " ez diff get wrecked you’re trash" mentality because they can’t do it in ranked lol

OW is toxic in general but OW2 is WAAY more toxic because of the f2p model.

Because Blizzard allows them to be. The only solution to put an end to most toxicity is to remove chat with the enemy team. Enough is enough.

i’ve noticed the toxicity in qp as well! i used to play a lot more comp but as a support main i got tired of getting the bulk of the blame regardless of how i played, so i went to qp for a more casual experience. but now it seems qp has become the same kind of cesspool . maybe i’ll try comp again and see if anything’s changed

I haven’t experienced that, mostly I just get silence in QP with rare toxicity. I don’t agree with your characterization of ranked chat as “tough love”. People are rarely able to separate productive feedback from venting their frustrations.

My experience in OW1 was always the contrary. In QP people would be fun or silent, with occasional toxicity. In Competitive it was all about screaming at your team and calling names. Maybe it’s because I played heroes who were considered by some as throw picks, of course… But I wasn’t the only one getting hate.

My experience is comp is full of dead serious meta followers who will flame and report for a slight step to the side.

That hasn’t been my experience at all. QP is incredibly toxic, but comp takes the toxicity to a whole different level.

Going off meta is accepted as long as you can pull it off.

Flame and curses usually started BEFORE the match.

Game’s frustrating man and is clearly leaving a toll on people you can make a public announcement all you want but at the end of the day it still boils down to you reporting those who really can’t control themselves.

  1. Comp takes too damned long to play and to rank in, so it’s an immediate turn-off to those of us who want to get right into a game and at most, win 2 rounds not 5 or 6. Some of us also don’t have the time to only play comp.
  2. People like you who think QP is the place to “practice” in. Your rank on whatever your main is…then you jump into a QP and unfairly subject your team to what would be called sabotage in comp. There is arcade and practice mode, yet you…refuse to practice in there.
  3. people who want to win QP but are in a team full of those who dont care make the game unfun for that person, yet are punished when they leave. I mean…that’s why most of them wont fart sunshine and rainbows all the time.
