Almost every single game I’ve had 1 or 2 toxic players after the change to SMS protect!
Bah hum bug. I had the same number with phone verification.
They simply need to allow pre-paid. It’s that simple.
Welcome to the overwatch community. Do what a lot of people have been doing and leave both text chat and voice chat. No more toxicity for me.

I only have 1 account, have never been warned for bad action, or even got an exp penalty for leaving games. But if SMS protect were added, I’d be locked out again. Can you suggest something that would only really affect bad actors rather than also blocking the less financially well off?

Why does it matter if people are toxic?
I will never understand, but then again I grew up.
What makes it even harder to understand, is that I grew up on games that had absolutely no censor or tools to mute people and people just let out their inner frustration in all colours.
At this point in time, for all the sensitive flower petals, games have mute options, yet they still complain about “toxic” behaviour.
To me, nothing is toxic in games, because I understand the frustration that each HUMAN BEING expresses. Sometimes you have bad days, where you are doing your best and you have teammates who sh!t on your investment at doing well. Of course that will cause annoyances.
In team games that is the problem, everyone is complaining about the “toxic” players, but nobody gives a damn to look at what the cause is. Bad players, afks, trolls, griefers, etc… It is completely human to be “toxic” and the sooner you get out of your comfort zone the sooner you will realize they are simply words and come at no harm.
BUT, should words miraculously cause such discomfort that you need to come to forums of the game and talk about it, this is just a friendly reminder, that you can mute players and turn off text chat too. Simple.

Because it ruins the game and enjoyment for others, especially older gamers who aren’t comfortable or used to it. Luckily for me you can disable both text and voice chat so I don’t have to listen or deal with your average reject complaining like a toddler that we aren’t playing the game the way he wants. Imagine being so insecure that you have to bully and put others down on a video game, where people just play to try and enjoy themselves and have fun.

they removed it because of severe backlash as it prevented some players from playing bringing it back wont solve a thing
idk , personally i encountered a surprisingly low amount of toxicity in ow2

I played over 30 hours in the last week and I’ve probably seen 5 people be actually toxic. Plenty of EZ and so on, but actual toxicity is incredibly rare.
oh that’s easy how about they permaban racists , but blizzard doesn’t actually care about having a good community .
Yeah so did I, but so what? It’s not some strange badge of honor. It’s just a product of it’s time and smaller community servers.
but why should the next generation grow up gaming with that crud going on? Toxic junk in games is just cowardly actions as it’s not face to face with any sort of possible repercussions. Why should some 14 year old black kid be subjected to racist rants over nothing? Why should female gamers be worried to even talk at all in coms in a team game? Why should player be able to stalker certain fringe group streamers and then relentlessly taunt them in a video game on stream?
I have no problem with the current trend of cracking down on a certain bad apple sort of player.

So then you will go after players that write GG EZ or GG in general? Because that is where this is headed and if not, then you are literally giving these sort of abbreviations after the match ends more power. You are fueling toxicity by making posts like this and people will always find new ways to be toxic and untouchable.
You know that meme where the person on the bike shove a stick through the spokes, that is literally every person complaining about toxic players.
I mean, I think people using slurs DO get banned. Though the mod team most likely can’t keep up with the amount of bad actors a lot of the time.
How was a phone number going to change anything? What were they going to do call me and force me to see a counselor?
Lots and lots of businesses have my phone number it’s pretty normal I don’t get it.
If your opinion is that it’s fine for them to be racist that says are a lot about you.
At least let us block players and never get them in our games again , I don’t know about you but I don’t wanna sit a game for 10-20 mins with a bunch of toxic players , we can’t even leave a game without it being penalized.
I don’t get it. Idk why people would complain when the solution is right in front of their face. Mute the players who you don’t want to hear… simple as that.
that’s a huge reach and you know it… Blizzard didn’t spend 4 years building out an entire AI system to tackle GGEZ. Everyone knows the rules and limits in real life. You might tell a friend his girl needs to let him out the house a bit more but you’re not going to just rip into how she looks etc.
So people know where lines are and it’s tiresome that people try to feint that that online nobody knows. There is no reason to still be accepting of absolute Thunderdome sort of actions in games. At least not when tech has progressed to the point there can be some sort of consequences.
Most of all when the consequences are just being punted from said game.
