Toxic community is to blame

The community is to blame for all the negativity around comp for the last few seasons. What can the developers do if we have a gamer generation running wild that thinks its cool to throw games and throw fits if you lose a round. Ranked isn’t a ladder where you accumulate points and eventually reach the top like some poorly designed MMO. Skill based rewards/rankings are what makes games good and also seems to tilt the life out of the new gaming generation. Must be a lot of fun to be a game developer these days…

Gauntlet thrown down!
First off you nailed it.
Vast majority of the “games” issues can be fixed by the community itself

Second, sure some of it needs to be tweaked and certainly improved by Blizzard for a more overall experience boost - but the player base must do their part.

LFG could have fixed a lot of issues, but the community poorly uses it.

The community needs some enforcers on the ladder. We need mommies and daddies who can make sure that our players have a thrower free experience. It’s the fault of the community, but it is up to the developers to make sure that games are competitive and fun. We need to get bans to happen quicker on the top 5 percent reported. Players that play competitively don’t get reported. This should skim off boosted accounts, boosters, smurfs, cheaters, and anyone else purposefully ruining games.

The community can’t enforce itself, without the ability to do so, and we can only get it by Blizzard doing some changes on their end.

We can’t review games, see reports, view chatlogs, hand out punishments.

You can’t lump it on the community, when Blizzard doesn’t give us the tools to do so, AND they seem not to care enough to do it themselves.

You can try to blame the community, but, this ultimately falls at Blizzards feet.

It is their game, and they not only can, but have let it become a cess pool by apathy.

They want it to be an e-sport? Take martial arts, if a high ranked person showed up in a tourney as a newby just so they can beat the people down there, they would be banned from competition play so quickly, and have their rank stripped from them.

Here, they are welcomed with open arms. This is on Blizzard.

The community can’t enforce itself?

That is some ignorance right there.
You’re suggesting that the player base has NO accountability

You’re actually suggesting that a dude walking down the street can just mug and rob someone and it’s okay; because no authority was present to enforce why they shouldn’t do it.

Just because you know something isn’t right, yet you do it anyway regardless if the “authority” can punish you or not doesn’t make it right.

You are accountable for your actions, if anything have some honor and pride for yourself to be righteous.

First off they need to get rid of the auto suspension bot. We report players for bad behavior. It takes hundreds of reports before auto bot does a slap on the wrist. Which makes player salty. We need a human to review reports verify bad behavior or false reports and dole out punishment. Build a separate server for blatant trouble makers. They have the same games but are pooled with other trouble makers.

I am saying the player base has no ability to police its own, and Blizzard isn’t policing anything.

nope, but I am saying he will get away with it 100% in overwatch because no one can stop him.

The ones who care, don’t have the ability, and the ones with the ability don’t care.

Agreed. Now, how can the community as a whole do something about it without Blizzard doing some work first?

The community as a whole is powerless here, EXCEPT to complain about the situation to Blizzard.

OP said “The community is to blame for all the negativity around comp for the last few seasons.”

I am saying Blizzard screwed up and should take ownership of that. Because the people who are being negative about comp for the last few season are sick of being powerless to the people abusing the game.

You don’t want us to be negative about people smurfing? How about actually doing something about it?

The community being negative about the state of the game is on Blizzard, they need to do enforcement, and if they don’t, don’t expect people to be happy.

Just recently I was downgraded from endorsement 4 to 3 I had false report sent about me and I wasn’t even the toxic players. I said filing false reports will get you banned I never swore or made bad comments yet I still lose my endorsement rank.

They don’t check for false reports. I have never seen anyone get punished for false reports. However many players have been suspended from false reports only to get the suspension reversed by contacting blizz.

Actually lets see you do it. we have a person in another thread Go for it… here is a person who is smurfing the lower ranks by stomping on people using his sisters account.

SHOW ME YOUR ENFORCEMENT POWERS!

Can you do something about this person? could the community stop them?

lets see the rubber meet the road here. Here is target #1

You think the community can enforce itself?

I disagree. The toxicity is a product of poor matchmaking and poor hero balancing.

No its not. Yes blizzard is very slow with hero balancing but thats not issue. Community is horrible. But blizz should definitely do more yes (guilde-clan system for example)

Ok so then you must believe that Overwatch just got unlucky by having a bunch of toxic people drawn to it. Otherwise how could you possibly explain it.

My friend is playing Lol. He said there is much more toxic cummunity. Lately i saw jayne videi with Kephrii and he said that Halo community was super toxic too. Its not the games, its people and this genereration of gamers. I dont remember people being so toxic 10+ years back.

The online community is to blame for the toxicity. Opinions are like buttholes, everone has one. People don’t realize that there’s a vastly diverse group of gamers playing OW, from old school gamers to young preteens to Anime Fans/Cosplayers to hardcore CS:GO pros. You’re not going to all agree in a lobby, you’re not going to all be the same skill level (despite being in the same rank), or all have a deep character pool. Competitive isn’t taken as seriously by everyone. Some people log on with expectations that they want to get to Grandmasters, other look at it as being a small challenge, others just see it as a game where they want to play what they want to play, despite win/loss. Sure some people can change, some won’t, and unless you know the person on the other side of the screen, they don’t have to listen to a thing you say. Blizzard gave LFG to help us out, but that can’t be perfect due to other people. They could implement clans, but then the leaders are responsible for policing members, what makes you think they’ll all do a better job. Who’s to say that wouldn’t fail too. My point is that you can report, they’ll ban what they see fit, but they can’t control what type a person is going to press play. It’s up to you to be a team player, do your job, learn every role, and don’t be a jerk online. Blizzard can’t shut a mouth until after its reported. If you’re mad take a breath, mute/rant, and jump back on. There’s no need to talk crap on the mic because someone isn’t doing things your way, they don’t have to.

Is it really?

Or at what point do you consider the game company has something to do with it?

Blizzard outright refuses to even attempt to solve toxicity by providing any details to punished players. Ask why you get punished and you just get, ‘We can’t tell you.’ Oh well great that totally helps and definitely doesn’t cause toxicity to perpetuate.

The dev forced the system of 6 players NEED to work together in order to win and have a good time. The idea of solo q was disastrous from the start. The whole mechanics of the game is 6 people NEED to be on the same page or GG. Most FPS and competive games allows solo carry or do your own thing while still winning. So you grow accustom to that format. But not this game, it punish you for trying to have fun. They promotes "diversity"play style but in reality its Dev forced metas and Dev forced mechanics which prevent anyone doing just that or its throwing.

So toxicity grows out of despite. Why? being forced to play heroes you dont like and playing with strangers who just like you, used to doing their own things. So no it’s not the community fault, its the Dev for never ending changing the troposphere. They can’t make up their minds who they want to make this game for and what type of game they want it to be.

Also i like to edit their never ending Censoring the community and arbitrary bans is a very real reason why the people in general love to be sheetty. Censoring GG EZ was by far one of the dumbest thing they ever done, then went full r-tard and wants to monitor your account on twitch. You even get ban for contextual wording with zero insults or “bad” words being used.

SO TLDR: Dev reap what they sow

Last few seasons? Almost 10 seasons. The lazy new report system was just the nail in the coffin giving the toxic community the power to take away someones game they paid for.
